Đã là người, không ai tránh khỏi thập giá. Thập giá có thể làm tê
liệt hoặc hủy hoại con người, nhưng nó cũng có thể là phương tiện
giúp người ta nhận ra sự thực về chính mình, giúp người ta gần gũi

Khi một người đang đi xe trên đường, gặp một cây lớn nằm vắt ngang;
việc đưa chiếc xe vượt qua cản trở này là một vất vả với họ; cây nằm
ngang đường đúng là “thập giá”. Tùy cây đó lớn nhỏ mà người ta có
thể vượt qua chướng ngại đó hay không. Chuyện cái cây vắt ngang
đường chỉ là một hình ảnh, “thập giá” cũng có thể là “cây” mà người
ta đã ấn trên vai Đức Giêsu, và bắt Ngài vác ra gò Sọ, nơi mà chẳng
ai muốn cho mình. Trên đường đời, có bao nhiêu cản trở vắt ngang; nó
có thể là những bệnh tật, những thất bại trong đường công danh sự
nghiệp, điều không được như ý trên đường tình duyên.</span></p>

Thập giá đã hủy diệt nhiều người, nếu người ta không vượt qua được
mà cũng không sẵn sàng chấp nhận thập giá. Có nhiều người cảm thấy
bất hạnh khi gặp những bệnh nan y, thế nhưng cũng có những người
chấp nhận bệnh hoạn, và vui sống trong hoàn cảnh của mình. Có những
người mắc bệnh phong, nhưng vẫn vui trong tình trạng và hoàn cảnh
của họ; họ còn lạc quan hơn nhiều người không mắc bệnh gì.</span></p>

Vượt qua cái cây đổ ngang trên đường, là điều có thể làm được. Tránh
khỏi thập giá người ta ấn trên vai như trường hợp Đức Giêsu bị dẫn
trên đường đến gò Golgotha, là điều không thể. Có lúc người ta vượt
qua thập giá, nhưng có lúc người ta phải chap nhận thập giá; chấp
nhận thập giá cũng là một cách vượt qua thập giá. Đức Giêsu là người
đã vượt qua thập giá bằng cách chấp nhận; và các Kitô hữu anh hùng
tử đạo cũng là những người đã noi gương Đức Giêsu, vượt qua thập giá
bằng cách chấp nhận; các ngài đã lãnh nhành thiên tuế.</span></p>

2) Thập Giá của Đức Giêsu</span></strong></span></p>

Thời Đức Giêsu, người Do Thái sống dưới ách thống trị của người
Roma, hình phạt chết treo thập giá là một điều khủng khiếp, một mối
nhục. Người Roma không bị kết án chết trần truồng trên thập giá. Án
thập giá chỉ dành cho những dân bị trị. Án thập giá là án ô nhục
nhất giữa những hình phạt dành cho tội nhân. Đức Giêsu đã bị thi
hành án ở gò Sọ, gần thành Yêrusalem, bên đường đi. Sở dĩ những
người lãnh án bị hành hình nơi có người qua lại như thế, là nhằm răn
dạy những người còn sống: nếu họ hành xử như vậy, họ cũng sẽ bị hình
phạt như thế. Những người cam quyền mong rằng, khi người ta nhìn
thấy cảnh khủng khiếp của những tội nhân tử hình như vậy, người ta
sẽ khiếp sợ mà không phạm tội nữa.</span></p>

Đức Giêsu đã bị chết treo thập giá giữa hai người trộm cướp. Ngài bị
người ta liệt vào đồng hàng với những người tệ nhất trên đời. Hình
phạt tử hình thập giá cho Ngài như cao điểm thập giá trong đời Ngài,
tuy nhiên thập giá đã không thiếu trong suốt đời Đức Giêsu. Sinh
trong một gia đình nghèo, thiếu điều kiện sống và ăn học, cũng là
thập giá đối với nhiều người; sống trong một làng nghèo, với nhiều
người, cũng là một thập giá. Khi đi rao giảng, Đức Giêsu đã bị nhiều
người chống đối; Ngài bị người ta cho là người mat trí, một kẻ lộng
ngôn phạm thượng, một kẻ thuộc phe quỷ vì lấy quyền của tướng quỷ mà
trừ quỷ, một tội nhân. Bao nhiêu chống đối, bao nhiêu bất lợi trên
đời: đó cũng là những thập giá đối với Đức Giêsu.</span></p>

Đức Giêsu đã không bị hủy diệt bởi dư luận, bởi thế lực phàm trần.
Người ta có thể vu oan giá họa cho Ngài, người ta có thể giết Ngài,
nhưng người ta không thể bắt Ngài khuất phục. Ngài là con người tự
do với tất cả: tự do với tiền bạc, tự do với dư luận khen chê, tự do
với mọi thế lực hãm hại Ngài. Ngài vẫn cố sống cho ra người, trong
mọi hoàn cảnh, và sống yêu thương. Tất cả những hoàn cảnh và thái độ
của người ta đối với Ngài, vẫn không thay đổi được thái độ thẳm sâu
của Ngài đối với mọi người: yêu thương. Ngài yêu thương tất cả con
người, thông cảm với những giới hạn của con người, ngay cả đối với
những người thù ghét và giết chết Ngài: “Lạy Cha, xin tha cho chúng
vì chúng lầm chẳng biết”.</span></p>

3) Thập giá tôi luyện con người</span></strong></span></p>

107%"><em style="box-sizing: border-box"><b>“Lửa thử vàng, gian nan thử đức”.</b></em><span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:107%"> Đường
gian nan, sông khúc khuỷu, mới biết tay đua giỏi. “Ví thử đường đời
bằng phẳng cả, anh hùng hào kiệt có hơn ai”. Con người ta lộ diện
mình là ai, khi gặp những lúc gian nan sóng gió. Trước khi đưa một
vật tưởng là vàng mà không phải là vàng thật vào lửa, người ta có
thể lầm tưởng nó là vàng thật; nhưng một khi đưa nó vào lửa, lưa
giúp người ta nhận ra sự thật: nếu là vàng thật nó sẽ không biến
đổi, còn nếu là vàng giả thì nó sẽ biến đổi màu.</span></span></p>

Thập giá giúp con người biết rõ về mình, biết mình là ai. Thập giá
giúp mình nhận ra mình thật mong manh mỏng dòn, và cần Thiên Chúa
giúp để có thể vượt qua những sóng gió chông gai trên đường đời.
Thập giá, đối với những ai thuộc về Thiên Chúa, có thể giúp con
người cậy dựa vào Thiên Chúa, tùy thuộc Thiên Chúa, gần gũi Thiên
Chúa, thuộc trọn về Thiên Chúa hơn.</span></p>

Thập giá không phải luôn luôn đến từ sự dữ, nhưng giả sử nếu nó do
sự dữ thì con người vẫn chiến thắng sự dữ nhờ vào Thiên Chúa, như
Đức Giêsu đã chiến thắng sự dữ nhờ Thiên Chúa. “Khi con người bị
treo lên, Ta sẽ kéo mọi người lên với Ta”. Chính khi sự dữ giết được
Đức Giêsu, thì lúc đó nó chiến bại. Thiên Chúa đã phục sinh Đức
Giêsu. Thiên Chúa chiến thắng sự dữ. Những ai kết hiệp với Thiên
Chúa, ở trong Thiên Chúa, thì sẽ chiến thắng sự dữ, vì Thiên Chúa
chiến thắng sự dữ qua chính người đó.</span></p>
