là vương cung thánh đường xưa nhất và mang nhiều ý nghĩa nhất trong số rất nhiều
thánh đường ở Roma.</span></p>

Theo lịch sử thì đền thờ này được xây nên ngay sau khi Hội Thánh vừa thoát ra
khỏi tình trạng hang toại đạo có nghĩa là vừa thoát ra khỏi tình trạng bị bắt bớ
dưới các triều hoàng đế Rôma. Năm 313 lệnh bắt đạo được bãi bỏ. Năm 320 tự do
tôn giáo được pháp luật công nhận và bảo hộ. Sự việc này đã làm nức lòng các tín
hữu và ngay lập tức người ta nghĩ ngay đến việc phải xây dựng những đền thờ để
làm công việc thờ phượng Chúa cho xứng đáng. Trong số những nhà thờ được xây vào
lúc đó người ta đặc biệt chú ý đến ngôi đền thờ dành cho vị Giám Mục Roma đồng
thời cũng là vị lãnh đạo tối cao của Giáo Hội phụ trách. Chính Hoàng đế
Constantinô đã xin biến nơi ông đã được rửa tội trong cung điện Latêranô để làm
cơ sở cho việc xây dựng ngôi đền thờ này. Người ta cũng đã khiêng cái bàn thờ
nơi các Giám mục Roma đã từng dâng lễ trong những năm bị bắt bớ về đặt ở trong
ngôi thánh đường mới. Lúc đầu người ta dâng đền thờ này để kính Đấng Cứu Thế. Về
sau người ta lại gọi đền thờ này là Vương cung Thánh đường dâng kính Thánh Gioan
Tẩy giả. Rồi từ đời này qua thời đại khác, đền thờ Latêranô luôn được coi là Nhà
thờ chính tòa của các vị Giám mục thành Roma mà tất cả các Giáo Hội trên Thế
giới đều coi là Giáo Hội Mẹ. Đến thế kỷ thứ XVI thì ngôi vị này mới được chuyển
đổi qua một ngôi Đền thờ mới: đó là Đền thờ thánh Phêrô hiện ở trong cung điện
Vaticanô. Xét về phương diện lịch sử và ý nghĩa, thì sự thay ngôi đổi vị này
không có ảnh hưởng gì đến ngôi đền thờ đặc biệt chúng ta mừng kính hôm nay.
Chính vì thế mà hằng năm cả Hội Thánh vẫn hướng về nó như người mẹ muôn thuở đã
sinh ra hàng hà sa số những người con trên mặt đất này.</span></p>

Như
vậy, về phương diện lịch sử chúng ta thấy việc mừng kính có một giá trị rất
thiết thực. Nó hướng chúng ta về một quá khứ hào hùng của Giáo Hội, một quá khứ
nói theo kiểu của Renan đã có thời phải thở bằng máu, nhưng lại là một quá khứ
dể lại những tấm gương về đời sống anh hùng, về niềm tin bất khuất và nhất là về
một lòng yêu mến vô bến bớ đối với Thiên Chúa, làm cho những thế hệ đi sau phải
noi gương. Nhắc lại những biến cố như thế thật là việc nên làm nhất là đối với
chúng ta ngày hôm nay.</span></p>

Nhưng thử hỏi có phải khi mừng lễ cung hiến thánh đường Lateranô, Giáo Hội chỉ
có ý nhắm tới mục đích này mà thôi không? Không! Giáo Hội còn muốn cho chúng ta
nghĩ tới những mục đích khác.</span></p>

thấy trong Cựu Ước đến thờ có một giá tri rất lớn: Đền thờ là nhà của Thiên

thời Tân ước thì chúng ta thấy Chúa Giêsu đã đẩy nó lên một cấp độ cao hơn. Đây
không phải là đền thờ bằng những nguyên liệu đất đá nhưng là bằng chính cõi lòng
của con người. Trong câu truyện Chúa thanh tẩy đền thờ mà bài Tin Mừng hôm nay
ghi lại chúng ta thấy được điều đó.</span></p>

Như
vậy thì chúng ta đã rõ việc mừng lễ cung hiến đền thờ Lateranô hôm nay không
phải chỉ là một việc làm ôn lại lịch sử mà là một việc làm củng cố niềm tin của
chúng ta. Chúng ta mỗi người là đền thờ của Thiên Chúa. Mỗi người là đền thờ
cũng có nghĩa là mỗi người có chỗ cho Chúa trong tâm hồn của mình. Một thi sĩ
Đức nói: Chúa có giáng sinh ra cả 100 lần ở Belem cũng vô ích cho bạn nếu Ngài
không sinh ra được ở trong băng hoại hồn của bạn” Như vậy thì trách nhiệm của
mỗi người thật nặng nề. Thánh Phaolô nói một câu mà tôi cho là rất khủng khiếp:
“Ai phá hủy đền thờ của Thiên Chúa thì Thiên Chúa sẽ hủy diệt kẻ ấy”.</span></p>

như một toà nhà muốn cho nó được đứng vững và tồn tại lâu dài chúng ta phải biết
bảo trì nó. Bảo trì bằng cách săn sóc chăm lo cho nó. Chăm lo như thế nào?</span></p>

Trước hết hãy lo cho nó được <em style="box-sizing: border-box">sạch sẽ.</em> Trong
Tin Mừng Chúa Giêsu đã mô tả tầm hồn của một người tội lỗi là tâm hồn chất chứa
đầy những thói hư tất xấu như “gian tà, giết người, ngoại tình, tà dâm, trộm
cắp, làm chứng gian, và vu không” và Chúa bảo “đó là những cái làm cho con người
ra ô uế”(Mt 15,19-20). Một tâm hồn như thế không thể xứng đáng với sự hiện diện
của Thiên Chúa được.</span></p>

2.
Tiếp theo muốn cho một ngôi nhà được <em style="box-sizing: border-box">đẹp đẽ </em>chúng
ta phải biết trang hoàng cho nó. Thánh Phaolô trong thư gửi tín hữu Galata đã mô
tả tâm hồn thánh thiện là một tâm hồn được trang hoàng bằng hoa quả của Thánh
Thần. Hoa quả đó là: “Bác ái, hoan lạc, bình an, nhẫn nại, nhân hậu, từ tâm,
trung tín, hiền hòa và tiết độ” (Ga 5,22-23)</span></p>

Sau cùng một ngôi nhà dù được trang hoàng đẹp đẽ cách mấy đi nữa nhưng nếu nó
không có sức sống thì nó cũng trở thành vắng lạnh không phát huy được tác dụng.
Hãy làm cho tâm hồn chúng ta bằng cách để cho ơn Chúa hoạt dộng trong chúng ta.
Thánh Phaolô dã dám tự hào mà noí: “Tôi đã không để cho ơn Chúa ra vô ích trong
tôi”</span></p>

kia Bà thánh Catarina thành Sienna bị một cơn cám dường như quá sức của mình. Bà
phải vất vả lắm mới qua được cơn cám dỗ này. Sau khi cơn cám dỗ đã qua, Bà thấy
Chúa hiện ra Bà liền hỏi Chúa: - Lạy Chúa lúc tâm hồn con bị cám dỗ đầy những
hình ảnh tối tăm nhơ nhớp như thế thì Chúa ở đâu?</em></span></p>

con làm cho con sa ngã phạm tội rồi không? Phần con, con đã hết sức chống cự,
còn Cha, Cha đã giúp con chiến thắng. Chiến đấu sẽ làm cho con trở nên vững mạnh
