Cầu nguyện và Tin luôn gắn liền với nhau : vì chúng ta Tin nên chúng ta
cầu nguyện, và nhờ cầu nguyện nên đức tin của chúng ta được củng cố
thêm. Bởi thế Chúa Giêsu dạy các tín hữu Ngài phải cầu nguyện luôn,
nghĩa là không chỉ cầu nguyện khi gặp chuyện gì khó khăn, mà phải cầu
nguyện trong mọi lúc.</span></p>

1. <u>Bài đọc I</u> (Xh 17,8-13)</span></p>

Chuyện này kể về thời dân do thái đang tiến vào Đất Hứa. Họ phải giao
chiến với những dân đã định cư sẵn trong miền đất đó. Đoạn này thuật
cuộc giao chiến với quân Amaléc :</span></p>

- Môsê giao cho ông Giôsuê dẫn quân đi giao chiến. Phần ông thì ở trên
núi giang tay cầu nguyện.</span></p>

- Khi nào Môsê còn giang tay cầu nguyện thì quân Israel thắng thế ;
ngược lại khi Môsê mỏi mệt quá bỏ tay xuống thì quân Israel thua. Người
ta mới lấy một tảng đá kê cho Môsê ngồi, lại cử thêm hai người giúp Môsê
nâng tay lên. Nhờ đó Môsê có thể giang tay cầu nguyện lâu giờ, và kết
quả là Israel đã toàn thắng.</span></p>

Chuyện này muốn nói rằng chiến thắng không phải do sức mạnh của quân
Israel, mà nhờ sự phù hộ của Chúa do lời cầu nguyện của Môsê.</span></p>

Thánh vịnh này tiếp nối ý tưởng của bài đọc I : "Ơn phù trợ tôi bởi nơi
nao ? Ơn phù trợ tôi đến từ Đức Chúa là Đấng dựng nên cả đất trời"</span></p>

3. <u>Tin Mừng</u> (Lc 18,1-8)</span></p>

Thánh Luca cho biết rõ ý nghĩa của dụ ngôn này là dạy "các môn đệ phải
cầu nguyện luôn, không được nản chí". Dụ ngôn có hai vai :</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 12px; background: white">
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; color: black">
- bà góa : trong xã hội do thái, các bà góa chịu nhiều thiệt thòi và
không ai bênh vực. Bà góa này có lẽ bị người ta ức hiếp nhưng vì không
ai bênh vực nên chỉ còn biết chạy đến kêu cứu với thẩm phán.</span></p>

- thẩm phán : lẽ ra nhiệm vụ của ông là bênh vực những người bị ức hiếp.
Nhưng ông thẩm phán này không bênh vực bà góa vì bà chẳng có lợi gì cho
ông cả. Dù vậy, nhờ bà cứ kiên trì kêu xin nên cuối cùng ông cũng xử
công bình cho bà.</span></p>

* Bài học : một người bất công như viên thẩm phán mà còn phải chịu thua
lòng kiên trì của bà góa. Huống chi Thiên Chúa tốt lành, Ngài sẽ mau
chóng bênh vực kẻ kêu xin Ngài cách kiên trì.</span></p>

Tuy nhiên, có nhiều kẻ không kiên trì nên đã mất lòng tin. Đó là ý nghĩa
câu cuối cùng : "Nhưng khi Con Người ngự đến. liệu Người còn thấy lòng
tin trên mặt đất nữa chăng ?".</span></p>

* 1. <u>Vai trò của cầu nguyện</u></span></p>

Không ai có thể sống đời Kitô hữu tốt mà không cầu nguyện. Nhưng chúng
ta phải hiểu cầu nguyện là gì và cầu nguyện thế nào.</span></p>

Có 3 người bị kẹt trong một căn phòng tối tăm và chẳng có cửa gì cả. Họ
làm thế nào để thoát khỏi tình trạng bế tắc này ?</span></p>

- Người thứ nhất là một nhà văn. Anh không có đức tin. Anh ngồi đấy và
luôn miệng nguyền rủa.</span></p>

- Người thứ hai là một tín hữu sốt sắng. Anh đã quỳ gối cầu nguyện rất
lâu, sau đó ngồi xuống chờ phép lạ.</span></p>

- Người thứ ba cũng là một tín hữu làm nghề thợ xây, vừa đạo đức vừa
thực tế. Sau khi cầu nguyện, anh lấy từ túi đồ nghề ra một cây búa và
một chiếc đục, rồi bắt đầu đục tường. Công việc rất lâu lắc và cực nhọc.
Bụi bắn vào mặt anh, vào cả mắt anh. Mồ hôi anh nhễ nhại. Nhưng anh vẫn
kiên trì đục. Thỉnh thoảng dừng lại nói "Lạy Chúa, xin cứu giúp chúng
con".</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 12px; background: white">
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; color: black">
Đang lúc đó người thứ nhất vẫn ngồi ở một góc, vừa hút thuốc vừa nguyền
rủa ; người thứ hai ở một góc khác tiếp tục cầu nguyện.</span></p>

Cuối cùng người thứ ba đã mở được một lỗ lớn trong vách tường và cả 3
người đã thoát ra khỏi căn phòng.</span></p>

Trên đây là 3 thái độ khác nhau đối với sự cầu nguyện :</span></p>

- Người thứ nhất coi cầu nguyện là mất giờ. Vì anh không có đức tin nên
thái độ của anh cũng hợp lý thôi. Nếu bạn không tin Chúa thì cầu nguyện
với Ngài sao được ?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 12px; background: white">

- Người thứ hai coi cầu nguyện là một sự thay thế cho làm việc, vì thế
sau khi cầu nguyện xong người ấy ngồi chờ Chúa giúp. Phải thành thật
nhìn nhận rằng chúng ta cũng nhiều lần cầu nguyện cách này, đặc biệt là
khi chúng ta cầu nguyện cho người khác. Chỉ là những lời nói, và những
lời đó trở thành một cái cớ để ta khỏi làm việc.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 12px; background: white">

- Người thứ ba tin tưởng vào hiệu quả của cầu nguyện, hiệu quả ấy không
thay thế làm việc, mà là trợ lực cho làm việc. Cầu xin điều gì thì đồng
thời cũng cố gắng làm bất cứ việc gì có thể để đạt được điều đó. Sự cầu
nguyện này khơi lên niềm hy vọng và khuyến khích lòng can đảm. Nó cũng
giúp ta cảm nhận rằng Chúa ở kề bên ta và không bỏ mặc ta trong cảnh khó
khăn.</span></p>

* 2. <u>Cầu nguyện luôn</u></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 12px; background: white">
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; color: black">
Đoạn Tin Mừng hôm nay bắt đầu như sau : "Chúa Giêsu dạy các môn đệ phải
cầu nguyện luôn, không được nản chí". Nhiều người chưa thấy giá trị của
sự cầu nguyện liên tục. Họ nghĩ chỉ cần cầu nguyện khi có việc cần Chúa
giúp, thế là đủ. Chuyện sau đây là câu trả lời cho những người ấy.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 12px; background: white">

Có một thành phố nhỏ kia có đầy đủ mọi cơ quan và dịch vụ cần thiết như
bệnh viện, trường học, nhà thờ, tòa án, chợ, tiệm may, tiệm ăn v.v. Chỉ
thiếu một điều là không có thợ sửa đồng hồ. Bởi vậy các đồng hồ lớn đồng
hồ nhỏ của những cư dân thành phố này dần dần cái thì hư, cái thì chạy
sai. Một số người quẳng đồng hồ vào tủ. Một số khác cố gắng tự mình lau
chùi, sửa chữa rồi tiếp tục dùng tạm mặc dù những chiếc đồng hồ ấy chạy
không được chính xác lắm.</span></p>

Một ngày kia có một người thợ sửa đồng hồ đến thành phố. Mọi người rất
mừng, ai nấy đều mang đồng hồ đến nhờ anh sửa. Tuy nhiên anh nói thật :
"Tôi chỉ có thể sửa những chiếc đồng hồ nào còn chạy. Còn những chiếc
nào đã ngưng chạy từ lâu thì tôi không sửa nỗi vì chúng rỉ sét hết rồi".</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 12px; background: white">

Cầu nguyện luôn cũng giống như giữ cho chiếc đồng hồ đời ta luôn luôn
chạy.</span></p>

Trong bài Tin Mừng hôm nay, Chúa Giêsu bảo chúng ta phải cầu nguyện
luôn, vì :</span></p>

Hồi còn bé, chúng ta được dạy chấp tay lại khi cầu nguyện. Khi tham dự
Thánh lễ, chúng ta thấy Linh mục cầu nguyện giang tay. Đó là hai tư thế
cầu nguyện.</span></p>

Cầu nguyện chấp tay có nghĩa là chúng ta tạm dừng những hoạt động để
chuyên tâm nghĩ đến Chúa. Còn cầu nguyện giang tay là để tỏ ra rằng
chúng ta là những người nghèo nàn trước mặt Chúa, chúng ta làm như người
ăn xin đưa hai bàn tay không ra để xin ơn Chúa.</span></p>

viết nguệch ngoạc của một đứa trẻ gởi vào bưu điện, và địa chỉ tới là <i>Chúa. </i>Nhân
viên bưu điện lấy làm lạ liền mở ra đọc. Thư viết rằng : <i>"Chúa thân mến,
con là Tommy, con sáu tuổi. Ba con đã chết và mẹ con phải cực khổ </i>để <i>nuôi
sáu anh em con. Xin Chúa cho chúng </i>con <i>30O đồng nhé".</i></span></p>

Nghe xong câu chuyện, chúng ta phải bật cười vì sự ngây ngô của cậu bé,
nhưng liền sau đó chúng ta lại cảm thấy hổ thẹn vì thấy bóng dáng mình
thấp thoáng trong hình ảnh cậu bé : Chúng ta cầu nguyện và muốn được
Chúa đáp lời tức thì theo yêu cầu chúng ta đề ra, nếu Người chậm đáp ứng
hoặc đáp ứng chưa đủ <i>"chỉ tiêu"</i> chúng ta đưa ra, thì chúng ta lại
khó chịu, và cũng chẳng thèm cám ơn Người.</span></p>

Tin Mừng hôm nay Chúa dạy các môn đệ : <i>"Phải cầu nguyện luôn, không
được nản chí"</i> (Lc 18,1). Người muốn chúng ta hãy liên lỉ cầu nguyện
và cầu nguyện cách kiên trì. Như Môsê quì giang tay suốt ngày cầu nguyện
cho dân Do thái thắng trận, như bà goá suốt bao ngày tháng cầu xin quan
toà minh xét cho bà, như thánh Mônica ròng rã 20 năm trường cầu nguyện
cho người con là Augúttinô trở lại, chúng ta hãy cầu nguyện liên tục và
bền chí, không hề nhàm chán, cả khi xem ra Chúa ngoảnh mặt làm ngơ.</span></p>

Chúng ta không nên tìm kiếm hiệu quả tức thì. Chúa sẽ đáp lời chúng ta
lúc nào và cách thức nào có lợi nhất cho chúng ta, theo như thánh ý
nhiệm mầu của Người. Thời gian Chúa nhậm lời có thể sẽ lâu hơn chúng ta
tưởng, cách thức Người ban ơn có thể sẽ khác với ước nguyện của chúng
ta, nhưng bao giờ cũng là lúc thích hợp nhất cho linh hồn chúng ta, bao
giờ cũng là cách hữu hiệu nhất cho hạnh phúc vĩnh cửu của mỗi người.</span></p>

Thường chúng ta lầm tưởng rằng, hơn ai hết chúng ta là người biết rõ
những điều mình cần xin. Nhưng thánh Phao lô dạy : <i>"Chúng ta không
biết cầu nguyện thế nào cho phải, chính Thánh Thần sẽ cầu thay nguyện
giúp chúng ta theo đúng ý Thiên Chúa"</i> (Rm 8,21-27). Vì thế, Đức Tổng
Giám Mục Fulton Sheen viết : <i>"Pytago. đã cấm môn sinh của ông không
được cầu nguyện cho chính họ vì họ không biết điều gì là lợi ích cả".</i> Khôn
ngoan hơn, Socrates dạy môn đồ ông chỉ xin những điều tốt lành, vì lẽ
Thiên Chúa biết tường tận những gì là lợi ích. Dốt nát và yếu đuối nên
chúng ta phải xin Thánh Thần soi sáng để chúng ta làm đẹp lòng Chúa
trong lúc an bình cũng như khi xao xuyến.</span></p>

Như thế, cầu nguyện không phải là việc xin ơn này ơn nọ, theo óc vụ lợi
của chúng ta, cầu nguyện không phải là việc tránh né bổn phận để Thiên
Chúa làm tất cả, cầu nguyện cũng không phải là việc liệt kê ước muốn để
mong chờ Chúa thực hiện. Nhưng cầu nguyện đích thực chính là việc thực
hành Đức Tin, nâng tâm hồn lên cùng Thiên Chúa để đối thoại với Người,
van xin Người tiếp tục ban ơn để chúng ta đủ sức thực hiện thánh ý
Người. Thấu hiểu sự yếu đuối của con người nên Chúa Giêsu than thở : <i>"Khi
Con Người ngự đến, liệu Người còn thấy lòng tin trên mặt đất nữa
chăng ?" </i>(Lc 18,8). Vậy, cầu nguyện không phải là độc thoại mà là
đối thoại liên lỉ và kiên trì với Thiên Chúa trong Đức Tin để trung
thành với Chúa cho tới khi Người lại đến.</span></p>
