Kinh Thánh đã đưa ra nhiều hình ảnh ám chỉ đến bữa tiệc Thánh Thể. Từ
những lễ vật của Cựu ước đến Manna trong hoang địa. Thế nhưng, phép lạ
bánh hóa nhiều là một hình ảnh vừa gần gũi, lại vừa trực tiếp nhất.</span></p>

Bởi vì sau phép lạ ấy Chúa Giêsu đã xác quyết:</span></p>

Tất cả những hình ảnh ấy đã được Chúa Giêsu thực hiện một cách trọn vẹn
trong bữa tiệc ly vào buổi chiều ngày Thứ Năm Tuần Thánh, khi Ngài thiết
lập Bí tích Thánh Thể.</span></p>

Rồi Ngài cầm lấy chén rượu và nói:</span></p>

Này là chén máu Ta, máu giao ước mới, giao ước vĩnh cửu, sẽ đổ ra cho
các con và nhiều người được tha tội.</span></p>

Vậy thì Bí tích Thánh Thể có ý nghĩa gì đối với chúng ta?</span></i></b></p>

Trước hết, Bí tích Thánh Thể là hy tế tưởng niệm và tạ ơn hoàn hảo nhất
dâng lên Thiên Chúa để đền bù vì tội lỗi chúng ta.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 36px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">

Thực vậy, qua cái chết và sống lại, Chúa Giêsu đã trở nên lễ tế hoàn hảo
nhất, bởi vì Ngài là Đấng thánh thiện tuyệt vời, được sánh ví như một
con chiên vượt qua thanh sạch, không tì vết, để đền bù thay cho chúng
ta.</span></p>

Đúng thế, tội lỗi là một sự xúc phạm đến Thiên Chúa, tự sức riêng chúng
ta không thể nào đền bù cho cân xứng. Với cái chết trên thập giá, Chúa
Giêsu đã đền bù thay cho chúng ta và hy tế này, ngày hôm nay vẫn còn
được tái diễn trong thánh lễ để kéo ơn sủng và tình thương của Thiên
Chúa xuống cho chúng ta.</span></p>

Tiếp đến, Bí tích Thánh Thể chính là lương thực nuôi sống tâm hồn chúng
ta.</span></p>

Thực vậy, phần xác chúng ta muốn được sống thì cần phải ăn. Phần hồn
chúng ta muốn được sống thì cũng cần phải ăn. Dĩ nhiên, không phải là
cơm gạo vật chất, nhưng là chính thịt máu Chúa Giêsu như lời Ngài đã
từng xác quyết:</span></p>

ăn bánh này thì sẽ được sống đời đời và Ta, Ta sẽ cho họ sống lại ngày
tận thế.</span></p>

Nhờ của ăn thần linh này, tâm hồn chúng ta được bổ dưỡng để có đủ sức
khỏe tiến bước trong cuộc lữ hành trần gian, và sẽ đạt tới bờ bến Nước
Trời.</span></p>

Sau cùng, Bí tích Thánh Thể còn là sợi dây liên kết, không phải chỉ liên
kết chúng ta lại với Chúa, mà hơn thế nữa còn liên kết chúng ta lại với
nhau.</span></p>

Thực vậy, nơi bàn tiệc Thánh Thể, chúng ta đều bình đẳng với nhau, không
phân biệt địa vị và tuổi tác. Đồng thời, nơi bàn tiệc Thánh Thể chúng ta
còn chia sẻ cùng nhau một thứ lương thực thiêng liêng, đó là Mình và Máu
Thánh Đức Kitô, như lời thánh Phaolô đã nói:</span></p>

Mặc dù chúng ta tuy nhiều, nhưng cùng ăn một bánh, cùng uống một chén,
cùng làm nên một thân thể mầu nhiệm của Đức Kitô.</span></p>

Chính vì thế, Bí tích Thánh Thể đòi buộc chúng ta phải biết yêu thương
nhau, giúp đỡ nhau và chia sẻ cùng nhau gánh nặng cuộc đời.</span></p>

Cộng đoàn các tín hữu sơ khai đã để lại cho chúng ta mẫu gương sáng chói
về vấn đề này: Họ thường tụ tập nhau lại để tham dự nghi lễ bẻ bánh, tức
là Bí tích Thánh Thể. Rồi trong cuộc sống, họ gom góp tài sản đặt dưới
chân các tông đồ, để tùy các ngài phân phối theo nhu cầu. Với một nếp
sống như thế, dân ngoại đã phải trầm trồ khen ngợi:</span></p>

Kìa xem họ yêu thương nhau biết là chừng nào.</span></p>

Còn chúng ta thì sao? Cuộc đời của chúng ta có phải là một thánh lễ nối
dài hay không? Và trong cuộc sống chúng ta có biết yêu thương, giúp đỡ
lẫn nhau như Bí tích Thánh Thể đòi buộc? Hay là, ở nhà thờ chúng ta là
những con chiên ngoan, nhưng khi bước xuống lòng cuộc đời, chúng ta vội
lột xác thành một loài lang sói, luôn oán ghét, thù hận, gầm gừ và cắn
xé lẫn nhau.</span></p>
