Ly, sau bài Tin mừng theo thánh Gioan, để diễn tả cách sinh động thái độ
khiêm nhường và tình yêu của Chúa Kitô đối với các môn đệ, dựa vào sắc
lệnh </span><em style="box-sizing: border-box; outline: none"><span style="font-family: Arial,sans-serif">Maxima Redemptionis
nostrae mysteria</span></em> về việc cải tổ Tuần Thánh (30/11/1955), tại
những nơi có lý do mục vụ tương xứng, có thể rửa chân mười hai người
nam.</span></p>

truyền</span></em> của Chúa về đức ái huynh đệ qua những lời dạy của

Khi thực hành nghi thức này, các giám mục và linh mục được mời gọi trở
nên giống Chúa Kitô, Đấng “đã đến không phải để được phục vụ, nhưng để
phục vụ” (Mt 20,28), và khi được thúc đẩy bởi tình yêu “đến cùng”
(Ga 13,1), sẵn sàng trao ban cả mạng sống vì phần rỗi toàn thể nhân
loại.</span></p>

Để thể hiện trọn vẹn ý nghĩa của nghi thức này nơi những người tham dự,
Đức Giáo hoàng Phanxicô muốn sửa đổi quy định chữ đỏ số 11, phần nghi
thức Thánh lễ Tiệc Ly trong Sách Lễ Rôma, câu: “Những người nam đã được
chọn …” được sửa lại thành: “Những người đã được chọn giữa cộng đồng dân
Chúa …” (trong sách Nghi thức giám mục, số 301 cũng phải sửa như thế, và
số 299b sẽ là: “dọn ghế cho những người đã được chỉ định”), như vậy, các
mục tử có thể chọn một nhóm tín hữu nói lên tính đa dạng và hợp nhất
trong mọi thành phần dân Chúa. Nhóm này có thể gồm nam giới và nữ giới,
người trẻ cũng như người cao tuổi, người khỏe mạnh và người đau yếu, các
giáo sĩ, tu sĩ, giáo dân.</span></p>

Bộ Phụng tự và Kỷ luật các Bí tích, với năng quyền do Đức Giáo hoàng ủy
nhiệm, nay đưa việc sửa đổi này vào các sách phụng vụ thuộc Nghi thức
Rôma, đồng thời cũng nhắc nhở các chủ chăn về nhiệm vụ phải hướng dẫn
đầy đủ cho những người được chọn cũng như các tín hữu khác, giúp mọi
người tham dự nghi lễ cách ý thức, tích cực và mang lại nhiều ơn phúc.</span></p>
