như ở đời này hạnh phúc thì ít mà đau khổ thì nhiều; và có thứ ta tưởng là

không phân định rạch ròi giữa phương tiện và cùng đích, giữa điều kiện vật
chất và định mệnh con người. Đời sống của họ bị nhận chìm bởi các con sóng
là các phương tiện vật chất như áo quần, xe cộ, nhà cửa và các tiện nghi
trong cuộc sống. Đời sống của họ bị đè bẹp bởi các hành trang vật chất chỉ
giúp họ duy trì và phát huy sự sống trong cuộc lữ hành ngắn ngủi của một đời
người. Họ quên rằng con người sống nhờ phương tiện nhưng lại sống cho cùng
đích. Và cùng đích của con người là "Hãy tìm kiếm Nước Thiên Chúa và đức
công chính của Người, còn tất cả những thứ kia, Người sẽ thêm cho" (Mt
6,33). Thảm kịch của cuộc sống chính là lo lắng tìm kiếm phương tiện, và để
cho cùng đích tan biến trong phương tiện.</span></p>

nghĩa là cái nghèo và cái khổ đi đôi với nhau; đã nghèo thì tất nhiên khổ.
Thế mà Chúa Giêsu lại nói "Phúc cho anh em là những kẻ nghèo". Hình như Chúa
Giêsu muốn đảo ngược kiểu nói "nghèo khổ" thành "nghèo phúc". Thật là nghịch

không có trên đời. Thông thường ai cũng muốn một cuộc sống sang giàu. Thế
nhưng có những người lại đi tìm một cuộc sống nghèo: chẳng hạn như các nho
gia cởi áo từ quan, rời bỏ nếp sống tiện nghi nơi thành thị để tìm nếp sống
thanh đạm giữa thiên nhiên; hay thánh Phanxicô Assisi là con nhà giàu nhưng
từ bỏ tất cả để sống nghèo, lại còn lập cả một huynh đoàn quy tụ những người
muốn sống nghèo như ngài; hay ngày nay những tu sĩ với lời khấn trọn đời
sống nghèo nàn. Những con người đó không phải điên khùng mà hoàn toàn sáng
suốt. Quyết định sống nghèo của họ không phải do bốc đồng nhất thời mà là
kết quả của một thời gian dài suy nghĩ chọn lựa. Sự chọn lựa ngược đời của
họ khiến ta phải suy nghĩ vì chắc hẳn họ đã nghiệm ra có nhiều điều hay
trong cái nghèo nên họ mới chọn lựa như vậy.</span></p>
