Nhìn thấy Chúa Giêsu làm những phép lạ, nhiều người Do thái đã băn khoăn
tự hỏi:</span></p>

Liệu Ngài có phải là Đấng cứu thế hay không?</span></p>

từ lâu họ sống dưới ách thống trị của đế quốc La mã, cho nên cũng đã từ
lâu họ, trông chờ một đấng cứu thế đến giải phóng họ và đem lại cho quê
hương họ sự phồn thịnh.</span></p>

Sống trong một hoàn cảnh như vậy, các môn đệ phần nào cũng đã chia sẻ
quan niệm ấy, thế nhưng Chúa Giêsu thì khác, Ngài đã không suy nghĩ và
hành động như họ.</span></p>

Sau phép lạ bánh hóa nhiều, nuôi sống năm ngàn người giữa chốn hoang vu.
Dân chúng đã nồng nhiệt tung hô Chúa và họ muốn tôn Ngài lên làm vua.
Trước ý đồ ấy, Chúa Giêsu đã trốn lên núi một mình.</span></p>

Các môn đệ cũng không hơn gì những người Do thái. Trước khi Chúa Giêsu
về trời, các ông đã hỏi Ngài:</span></p>

Phải chăng đã đến lúc Thày lập nước Israel?</span></p>

Mặc dù nhiều lần Chúa Giêsu đã nói cho các ông biết Ngài không đến nhằm
mục đích chính trị, nhưng đến để giải thoát con người khỏi tội lỗi và
dẫn đưa họ về cùng Thiên Chúa, Đấng đã yêu thương họ.</span></p>

Mặc dù các ông cũng đã tin, nhưng giấc mơ về nền độc lập của dân tộc vẫn
âm ỉ cháy trong cõi lòng các ông.</span></p>

Thái độ của Chúa Giêsu trước vấn đề quyền bính đã là một sự khó hiểu đối
với các ông, huống nữa là vấn đề đau khổ, thập giá và cái chết của Ngài.
Làm sao các ông có thể dễ dàng chấp nhận?</span></p>

Thực vậy, bài Phúc Aâm hôm nay đã cho chúng ta thấy, sau khi Phêrô tuyên
xưng đức tin, Chúa Giêsu đã nói trước cho các ông biết:</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 36px; margin-left: 36.0pt; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">

Con Người sẽ đi lên Giêrusalem, ở đó Ngài sẽ phải đau khổ và sẽ phải
chết, nhưng ngày thứ ba Ngài sẽ sống lại.</span></p>

Phản ứng của Phêrô thật là bộc trực và thẳng thắn, ông kéo Chúa Giêsu ra
một chỗ và nói:</span></p>

Ước chi Thiên Chúa sẽ gìn giữ Thày để Thày khỏi phải như thế.</span></p>

lẽ phản ứng của các tông đồ khác cũng như vậy. Một khi đã yêu mến Chúa,
thì làm sao các ông có thể chấp nhận Ngài phải khổ đau. Hơn thế nữa, như
mọi người Do thái khác, các ông quan niệm đau khổ là như một sự chúc dữ
của Thiên Chúa.</span></p>

Trước một người mù từ khi mới sinh, các ông đã chẳng hỏi Chúa Giêsu:</span></p>

bị mù là do tội của nó hay là do tội của cha mẹ nó?</span></p>

Chúa Giêsu hiểu điều ấy, nhưng Ngài cũng không thể chấp nhận để các ông
làm cản trở chương trình tình thương của Thiên Chúa. Cuộc thương khó của
Ngài phải được nhìn trong toàn bộ chương trình cứu độ mà Thiên Chúa đã
ươm mơ từ muôn ngàn thuở trước.</span></p>

Bởi đó Chúa Giêsu đã quở trách Phêrô:</span></p>

Hỡi satan hãy xéo đi, ngươi làm cản trở cho Ta vì ngươi chỉ nhìn thấy
những việc của loài người mà chẳng nhìn thấy những việc của Thiên Chúa.</span></p>

lần sau Chúa Giêsu lại tiên báo một lần nữa cho các ông:</span></p>

Chẳng bao lâu nữa Con Người sẽ bị nộp vào tay người ta, họ sẽ giết chết
Ngài, nhưng ngày thứ ba Ngài sẽ sống lại.</span></p>

Lần này thì các ông không dám lên tiếng, nhưng Phúc âm đã ghi lại rằng:</span></p>

Các ông đã tỏ ra buồn bã.</span></p>

Rồi cùng với thời gian, những sự việc đã xảy ra đúng như lời Chúa đã
tiên báo: Ngài đã bị treo trên thập giá. Dưới mắt các ông thì đây là một
thất bại ê chề.</span></p>

Chính vì thế, hai môn đệ trên đường đi Emmaus đã nói với Chúa Giêsu:</span></p>

Chúng tôi hy vọng Ngài sẽ cứu thoát Israel, nhưng những sự kiện đau buồn
ấy đã xảy ra ba ngày rồi.</span></p>

Chỉ dưới sự soi dẫn của Chúa, các ông mới hiểu được rằng: Ngài sẽ phải
đau khổ để được bước vào chốn vinh quang, và để đem lại cho chúng ta ơn
cứu độ.</span></p>

Còn chúng ta thì sao? Chúng ta có tìm thấy ý nghĩa đích thực của những
đau khổ gặp phải, hay là chúng ta cũng đã phản ứng như Phêrô và các tông
đồ ngày xưa?</span></p>
