Hôm nay, toàn thể Giáo Hội cầu nguyện cho việc truyền giáo. Ngày Đức
Thánh Cha Gioan Phaolô đệ nhị tuyên phong Mẹ Têrêxa lên bậc Chân Phúc mà
ta quen gọi là Á thánh cũng là ngày cầu nguyện cho việc truyền giáo. Và
Đức Thánh Cha khuyên nhủ chúng ta hãy truyền giáo theo gương Mẹ Têrêxa.
Vậy Mẹ Têrêxa là ai và Mẹ đã truyền giáo như thế nào?</span></p>

Mẹ Têrêxa sinh tại nước Anbani cũ. Mẹ đã xin gia nhập dòng Đức Mẹ
Loretto và được sai đi Ấn độ để phục vụ nguơì nghèo. Khi đến Ấn độ, Mẹ
được chứng kiến cả một đại dương mênh mông những người nghèo đói. Trẻ sơ
sinh bị bỏ rơi nằm la liệt ngoài đường. Những người già cả bệnh tật nằm
chờ chết bên những đống rác, và khi chết, bị vất vào đống rác như một
con thú vật. Xúc động trước cảnh nghèo khổ. Mẹ lăn xả vào phục vụ người
nghèo. Việc đầu tiên là mở những trung tâm đón tiếp, đưa những người hấp
hối ngoài đường về, săn sóc để họ được chết như một con người. Rồi mở
cửa nhà cô nhi nuôi dưỡng trẻ em bị bỏ rơi. Rồi mở bệnh viện chăm sóc
chữa trị những người nghèo khổ. Rồi mở trường cho trẻ em nghèo đến học.
Công việc càng ngày càng phát triển. Số người theo giúp Mẹ càng ngày
càng đông. Chẳng bao lâu, một dòng mới được thành hình với tên Nữ tử
Thừa sai Bác ái. Ngoài 3 lời khấn như những nữ tu khác, còn có lời khấn
phục vụ người nghèo. Mẹ được thế giới biết tiếng. Cả thế giới gọi Mẹ là
Mẹ Têrêxa. Khi Mẹ qua đời, 80 nhà lãnh đạo quốc gia trên toàn thế giới,
trong đó có phu nhân tổng thống Mỹ Bill Cliton và phu nhân tổng thống
Pháp Jacques Chirac đã đến nghiêng mình kính cẩn trước thi hài của Mẹ.
Nước Ấn độ có đa số dân theo Ấn độ giáo, vốn không ưa đạo Công giáo, thế
mà đã nghi thức quốc táng cho Mẹ,đã bắn hai mươi mốt phát súng đại bác
tiễn đưa linh hồn Mẹ về thiên đàng.</span></p>

2- TRUYỀN GIÁO</strong></span></p>

Mẹ Têrêxa đã truyền giáo cách nào mà thành công như thế? Thưa, Mẹ đã
dùng 4 phương cách sau:</span></p>

Phương cách thứ nhất: cầu nguyện. Có nhiều người tưởng Mẹ Têrêxa là con
người hoạt động. Không phải thế. Trước hết Mẹ là con người cầu nguyện.
Những giờ cầu nguyện triền miên phát xuất từ nỗi niềm khao khát Chúa.
Cầu nguyện đã đưa Mẹ đến phục vụ người nghèo. Rồi việc phục vụ người
nghèo đã đưa Mẹ trở về với kinh nguyện. Dòng chảy cầu nguyện liên lỷ
không bao giờ ngừng. Có thể nói cuộc đời Mẹ là cuộc đời chiêm niẹm trong
hoạt động.</span></p>

Phương cách thứ hai: thấm nhuần Lời Chúa. Mẹ tha thiết yêu mến Lời Chúa.
Lời Chúa thấm vào tận mạch máu thớ thịt, để Mẹ suy nghĩ, nói năng và
hành động theo Lời Chúa. Mẹ thường nói: Lời Chúa phải ở trên đầu ngón
tay ta. Theo Mẹ 5 từ ngữ quan trọng khắc ghi tên 5 đầu ngón tay của Mẹ
là: You did it for me. Đó là 5 từ tóm tắt 25 chương Tin Mừng theo thánh
Mátthêu: “Mỗi lần các con làm những việc này cho một trong những anh em
bé nhỏ nhất, đó là các con làm cho Thày”.</span></p>

Phương cách thứ ba: yêu mến người nghèo. Nơi Mẹ, yêu mến người nghèo
không phải là cảm tính nhất thời. Yêu mến người nghèo thực sự phát xuất
từ một đức tin sâu xa. Tin thật Thiên Chúa đang ở trong nhưng người
nghèo. Vì yêu mến người nghèo Mẹ đã tự nguyện sống nghèo. Mẹ sống trong
một căn phòng đơn sơ, chỉ có một chiếc giường, một bàn nhỏ, một ngọn đèn
và một chậu nước.</span></p>

Phương cách thứ tư: phục vụ bằng tình yêu. Vì tin Chúa đang ngự trong
người nghèo, nên phục vụ người nghèo chính là phục vụ Chúa. Vì thế, phục
vụ người nghèo là một bổn phận phải thực hiện trong khiêm nhường. Phải
phục vụ một cách kính cẩn. Phải phục vụ bằng tình yêu.</span></p>

Giữa thế kỷ 20 tôn trọng vật chất, quay lưng lại với đời sống tâm linh,
Mẹ Têrêxa đã trở nên một nhân chứng sống động của thế giới thần linh.
Giữa nước Ấn độ xa lạ với Kitô giáo, Mẹ Têrêxa đã trình bày được khuôn
mặt dễ thương dễ mến của Chúa, làm cho mọi người yêu mến đạo Cháu. Mẹ
xứng danh là nhà truyền giáo của thế kỷ 20. Giữa những bế tắc Mẹ đã khai
thông một lối đi. Lối đi vào thẳng trái tim con người. Trong bóng tối
dày đặc, Mẹ đã thắp lên một ngọn đèn. Ngọn đèn đó chiếu lên ánh sáng
niềm tin. Giữa trần gian lạnh lẽo, Mẹ đã đốt lên ánh lửa yêu mến. Ánh
lửa đó sưởi ấm tình người.</span></p>

Năm 2004 sắp tới được Hội đồng Giám mục Việt Nam chọn làm Năm Truyền
Giáo. Chúng ta hãy noi gương Mẹ Têrêxa, biết tha thiết cầu nguyện, biết
yêu mến Lời Chúa, nhất là biết yêu mến người nghèo và biết phục vụ bằng
tình yêu. Để mỗi người Công giáo thực sự là một ngọn đèn chiếu toả ánh
sáng của Chúa. Để mỗi người Công giáo là một niềm vui cho những người
chung quanh.</span></p>
