Nhân dịp phong thánh cho nữ tu Maria Faustina Kowalska, ngày 30/4
năm 2000, thánh Giáo hoàng Gioan Phaolô II đã đặt tên cho Chúa nhật
tiếp liền sau Đại Lễ<span style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></span>Phục
Sinh là Chúa nhật Lòng Thương Xót Chúa, kính nhớ việc Chúa Kitô tỏ
cho thánh Tôma thấy cạnh sườn, nơi trào ra nước và máu, suối nguồn
ân sủng. Truyền thống Giáo hội đã coi đây như là nguồn gốc của bí
tích hòa giải, nơi mà con người cảm nhận được sự tha thứ do lòng
thương xót Chúa.</font></span></p>

Cử chỉ trao ban bình an của Chúa Giêsu Phục Sinh cho các môn đệ,
biến các ông từ những người đang lo sợ và kinh ngạc, trở nên những
tác viên của Lòng Chúa Thương Xót. Chúa đưa đôi tay và cạnh sườn còn
in những dấu tích của cuộc thương khó và nói với các ông: "<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Bình
an cho các con. Như Cha đã sai Thầy, Thầy cũng sai các con</i>". Nói
thế rồi, Người thổi hơi và phán bảo các ông: "<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Các
con hãy nhận lấy Thánh Thần, các con tha tội ai, thì tội người ấy
được tha. Các con cầm tội ai, thì tội người ấy bị cầm lại</i>" (Ga
20, 21- 23). Chúa Giêsu trao phó cho các ông hồng ân "<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">tha
thứ các tội lỗi</i>" diễn tả lòng xót thương vô bờ của Thiên Chúa
đối với nhân loại, hồng ân này phát sinh từ những vết thương của đôi
tay, đôi chân và nhất là của cạnh sườn Chúa bị đâm thâu qua. Đó là
những vết thương hằn in trên cơ thể của Người lúc còn sống, ngay cả
sau khi phục sinh. Những vết thương vinh quang, mà Tôma đã tận mắt
chứng kiến tám ngày sau, thật không thể nào hiểu nổi và tin được
lòng thương xót của Thiên Chúa. Từ đó, một làn sóng tình thương nhân
từ đổ xuống trên toàn thế giới.</font></span></p>

Chúa Kitô Phục Sinh đã ban tặng cho nhân loại hồng ân tha thứ, những
con người lầm lạc đang bị thống trị bởi quyền lực sự dữ, của ích kỷ
và sợ hãi, tình yêu của Thiên Chúa tha thứ tất cả, hòa giải tất cả
và tái tạo tâm hồn, mang lại cho chúng nhân niềm hy vọng. Đó là tình
yêu có sức biến đổi con tim và ban tặng bình an. Thế giới ngày nay
đầy những thương tích về thể lý, tâm lý và luân lý cần thiết biết
bao lòng thương xót của Thiên Chúa!<br style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">

Chúa nhật Lòng Thương Xót Chúa, Giáo hội lặp lại câu Thánh Vịnh mà
suốt cả tuần Bát Nhật Phục Sinh toàn thế giới ca vang: "<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hãy
cảm tạ Chúa, vì Chúa hảo tâm, vì đức từ bi của Người muôn thủa</i>"
(Tv 117, 1). Lòng từ bi mạnh hơn tội lỗi và sự chết, ngày nay, nhân
loại vẫn đang tiếp tục thừa hưởng lòng từ bi tuôn trào từ những vết
thương vinh hiển và từ Trái Tim của Chúa, nguồn mạch không bao giờ
cạn.</font></span></p>

Trái Tim của Chúa Kitô đã trao ban tất cả cho con người: sự cứu
chuộc, ơn cứu rỗi và ơn thánh hóa. Từ Trái Tim Chúa xuất phát ra hai
tia sáng chiếu tỏa thế gian mà theo lời Chúa giải thích cho thánh
nữ, "<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">hai
tia sáng này tượng trưng cho máu và nước</i>". Máu nhắc lại hy tế
trên đồi Golgotha và mầu nhiệm Thánh Thể; còn nước, theo hình ảnh
phong phú của thánh sử Gioan, làm cho ta nghĩ đến bí tích Rửa Tội và
hồng ân Chúa Thánh Thần<span style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></span>(x.
Ga 3, 5; 4, 14).</font></span></p>

Lời kinh chúng ta vẫn đọc: "<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Lạy
Chúa Giêsu, con tín thác vào Chúa</i>", diễn tả đúng thái độ mà
chúng ta muốn có, để chúng ta đặt niềm tin tưởng, phó thác tuyệt đối
vào Thiên Chúa, Ðấng cứu độ duy nhất của chúng ta! Những tia sáng
của lòng từ bi Chúa mang lại niềm hy vọng cho những ai cảm thấy mình
bị đè bẹp dưới gánh nặng của tội lỗi. Chúa Giêsu Kitô là Tình Yêu và
Lòng Thương Xót của Thiên Chúa nhập thể. Vậy, chúng ta hãy luôn tin
tưởng nơi lòng thương xót của Chúa, là Ðấng luôn chờ đợi và yêu
thương chúng ta, đừng bao giờ đánh mất sự tin tưởng nơi lòng thương
xót nhẫn nại của Thiên Chúa, là Ðấng luôn luôn yêu thương, dịu hiền,
chờ đợi và tha thứ cho chúng ta. Cả khi chúng ta xa rời, Thiên Chúa
vẫn luôn gần gũi và sẵn sàng giang tay ra ôm ấp chúng ta vào lòng,
nếu chúng ta trở về với Chúa.</font></span></p>

Khi quảng diễn về lòng thương xót của Thiên Chúa, Đức Thánh Cha
Phanxicô nói: “<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Dung
mạo của Thiên Chúa là dung mạo của một người Cha đầy lòng thương
xót, đầy nhẫn nại với chúng ta. Người thấu hiểu chúng ta, chờ đợi
chúng ta và luôn tha thứ cho chúng ta mà không bao giờ mệt mỏi, nếu
chúng ta chạy đến với Người với tâm hồn sám hối… Lòng thương xót sẽ
biến đổi thế giới. Một chút lòng thương xót thôi cũng làm cho thế
giới bớt lạnh lẽo và thêm công chính</i>” (Kinh Truyền Tin,

Giờ kinh Truyền Tin ngày 11-01-2015, Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô nói với
dân chúng : “<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ngày
nay chúng ta rất cần đến lòng thương xót, Điều quan trọng là các tín
hữu sống lòng thương xót ấy và đem vào các môi trường xã hội khác
nhau</i>”. Để hàng ngày cảm nghiệm được Lòng Thương Xót Chúa và thực
thi lòng thương xót đối với tha nhân trong cuộc sống. Đức Thánh Cha
Phanxicô mời gọi chúng ta xóa bỏ sự thờ ơ, ngài viết: “<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Chúng
ta đừng sa vào thái độ thờ ơ lãnh đạm … đừng rơi vào trong thói quen
đánh mất cảm xúc…</i>” (x.Misericordiae Vultus số 15).</font></span></p>

vậy, trong thực hành, Giáo Hội cần phải là một bệnh viện lưu động để
chữa lành, chứ không phải chỉ mở cửa đón nhận tội nhân và nạn nhân

với các thánh hướng nhìn về Ðấng Cứu Chuộc, và lặp lại lời nguyện: "<i style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Lạy
