Phụng vụ với màu tím bao trùm mùa Vọng. Trong Mùa Vọng, người Kitô được mời gọi sám hối để lãnh nhận ơn giao hòa với Thiên Chúa. Nhiều người ngại xưng tội, ngại đào bới lại quá khứ. Xưng tội mang dáng dấp của một cái gì buồn thảm! Thật ra bí tích Hòa Giải là một điều tươi vui hơn nhiều. Sám hối không phải chỉ là quay về quá khứ, mà còn là hướng đến tương lai với nhiều hy vọng. Sám hối còn có màu hồng như màu áo lễ trong Thánh lễ Chúa nhật hôm nay.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 36.0pt; line-height: normal; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: "" Times New Roman'","serif"; New Roman";mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma; color:black'>Tin Mừng Chúa Nhật hôm nay thuật lại rằng: Khi dân chúng đến với Gioan, nhận phép rửa sám hối, họ đã hỏi ông: “<i>Thưa Thầy! Chúng tôi phải làm gì đây</i>?” (Lc.3:10). Cả những người thu thuế và binh lính cũng hỏi những câu tương tự.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 36.0pt; line-height: normal; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: "" Times New Roman'","serif"; New Roman";mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma; color:black'>Tôi phải làm gì đây? Gioan đã trả lời một cách thật rõ ràng. Đối với người thu thuế, ông bảo họ: ”<i>Đừng đòi hỏi gì quá mức đã ấn định cho các anh</i>” (Lc.3:13). Ông cũng bảo các binh lính: "<i>Chớ hà hiếp ai, cũng đừng chiếm đoạt của người, hãy bằng lòng với đồng lương của mình</i>." (Lc.3:14).</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 36.0pt; line-height: normal; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: "" Times New Roman'","serif"; New Roman";mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma; color:black'>Tôi phải làm gì đây? Phải chăng Gioan muốn mời gọi ta thay đổi cuộc sống, nhắn nhủ ta phải ăn năn sám hối. Sám hối không phải chỉ là một cảm xúc mông lung, xa rời thực tế. Sám hối đích thực dẫn đưa ta đến một hành động cụ thể. Sám hối là sống bác ái, có hai áo chia cho người một. Nhường cơm sẻ áo là ra khỏi nỗi bận tâm về mình. Sám hối là sống công bằng, không tham lam vơ vét, không dùng quyền lực để cưỡng đoạt, áp bức ai. Sám hối là hết nô lệ cho của cải, tiền bạc, quyền lực.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 36.0pt; line-height: normal; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: "" Times New Roman'","serif"; New Roman";mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma; color:black'>Trong niềm trông chờ Chúa đến, Gioan nhắn nhủ ta dọn đường cho Chúa đến bằng sám hối ăn năn, ông mời gọi ta chỉnh đốn lại con đường đến với Chúa và với tha nhân. Trở về với Chúa diễn tả qua việc trở về với anh em. Gioan không bắt những người thu thuế bỏ cái nghề ô nhục, cũng không đòi những người lính Do thái bỏ phục vụ Hêrôđê. Ông cũng không bảo họ lên đền thờ dâng lễ đền tội, hay vào hoang địa sống nghiêm ngặt như mình. Họ cứ làm nghề của họ, nhưng với một tinh thần mới, một hành động mới … Phải chăng sám hối và thay đổi cuộc sống là bước đầu chuẩn bị cho Chúa đến và cũng là ngưỡng cửa bước vào sự hiệp thông với Người.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 36.0pt; line-height: normal; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: "" Times New Roman'","serif"; New Roman";mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma; color:black'>Trong dân chúng thời bấy giờ, Gioan cao trọng đến nỗi người ta đã có thể coi ông là Đấng Thiên Sai. Nhưng Tin Mừng hôm nay thuật lại hành động khiêm nhường của Gioan, ông đã tự hạ trước sự cao cả của Đấng Thiên Sai mà ông chỉ đóng vai là kẻ dọn đường cho Ngài<i>:"Phần tôi, tôi làm phép rửa cho anh em bằng nước, nhưng có Đấng quyền thế hơn tôi đang đến, tôi không đáng cởi quai dép cho Người.”(</i>Lc.3:16).
