làm một với mẹ mình, và bị vua cho đánh bằng roi da và roi gân bò, bắt
ép ăn thịt heo mà lề luật đã cấm. Nhưng người anh cả của chúng tâu vua
rằng: "Bệ hạ còn hỏi han và muốn dò xét chúng tôi làm chi? Chúng tôi sẵn
sàng chịu chết hơn là phạm đến lề luật Thiên Chúa đã truyền cho tổ phụ

tâu vua rằng: "Hỡi vua độc ác kia, vua chỉ cất mất mạng sống chúng tôi ở
đời này, nhưng Vua vũ trụ sẽ làm cho chúng tôi, là những kẻ đã chết vì
lề luật của Người, được sống lại trong cuộc sống đời đời".</font></p>

người con thứ ba chịu cực hình, tên lý hình bảo cậu le lưỡi, cậu liền le
lưỡi, dõng dạc giang hai tay ra và nói một cách tin tưởng rằng: "Tôi
được Trời ban cho các phần thân thể này, nhưng giờ đây vì lề luật của
Thiên Chúa, tôi khinh chê chúng, bởi tôi trông cậy rằng Người sẽ ban lại
cho tôi các phần thân thể ấy". Nhà vua và những kẻ tuỳ tùng của ông lấy
làm bỡ ngỡ thấy lòng mạnh bạo của cậu trẻ coi các cực hình như không.</font></p>

<font face="Arial" size="3">Người con thứ ba chết rồi, thì người ta bắt
người con thứ tư chịu cùng một cực hình. Lúc sắp chết, cậu nói rằng:
"Thà chịu chết do tay người đời mà trông cậy Thiên Chúa sẽ cho sống lại
thì hơn: Phần vua, vua sẽ không được sống lại để sống đời đời đâu". Đó
là lời Chúa.</font></p>

Nhưng Thiên Chúa là Đấng trung thành, Người sẽ làm cho anh em được kiên

cưới vợ, rồi chết đi mà không có con, thì người em phải cưới người vợ
goá đó, để cho anh mình có kẻ nối giòng. Vậy có bảy anh em: người thứ
nhất cưới vợ rồi chết mà không có con. Người kế tiếp cưới vợ goá đó, rồi
cũng chết không con. Người thứ ba cũng cưới người vợ goá đó. Và tất cả
bảy người đều cưới như vậy và đều chết mà không để lại người con nào;
sau cùng người thiếu phụ đó cũng chết. Vậy đến ngày sống lại, người đàn
bà đó sẽ là vợ ai trong các người ấy? vì tất cả bảy người đều lấy người
ấy làm vợ".</font></p>
