Những châm ngôn trên đều nói lên cùng một lời cảnh báo là chúng ta chỉ
có thể lành mạnh nếu biết chia sẻ của cải giàu có của mình với người
khác. Điều này nhắc cho chúng ta biết mình phải biết trao tặng cho
người nghèo, không phải vì lý do đơn giản là họ cần chúng, dù họ cần
thật, nhưng là nếu không làm thế, chúng ta sẽ không thể sống lành mạnh
được. Khi trao tặng cho người nghèo, thì đó là lúc chúng ta thực thi cả
lòng nhân lẫn công lý, nhưng đó cũng mang lại lợi ích riêng lành mạnh
cho mình, cụ thể chúng ta sẽ không sống lành mạnh hay hạnh phúc nếu
không chia sẻ sự giàu có, dưới mọi hình thức, của chúng ta với người
nghèo. Sự thật này ghi đậm bên trong cảm nghiệm của mỗi người và trong
tất cả mọi truyền thống đức tin và đạo đức đích thực.</span></p>

nghiệm, chúng ta biết rằng khi trao tặng những gì mình có cho người
khác, chúng ta cảm nghiệm được một niềm vui trong cuộc sống, còn khi ích
kỷ thu tích hay canh giữ các sở hữu của mình thì chúng ta sẽ ngày càng
lo lắng và bồn chồn đến hoang tưởng. Văn hóa của người da đỏ ở Mỹ luôn
luôn đề cao nhận thức này, thể hiện trong lễ Potlatch của họ, nghĩa là
dù họ tin rằng tất cả mọi người đều có quyền tư hữu, nhưng có một giới
hạn thực tế cho mức độ tư hữu đó. Một khi tài sản của mình đạt đến một
mức độ nhất định, chúng ta cần phải bắt đầu trao tặng nó đi, không phải
vì người khác cần nó, nhưng vì sự lành mạnh và hạnh phúc của chúng ta sẽ
bắt đầu lụi tàn nếu chúng ta cứ khư khư tích trữ tất cả của cải đó cho
riêng mình.</span></p>

giáo cũng có quan niệm tương tự: Nhiều lần lặp đi lặp lại trong Thánh
Kinh Do Thái, nói rằng khi một lãnh đạo tôn giáo hay một ngôn sứ nói cho
dân Do Thái biết rằng họ là dân được chọn, là một quốc gia được chúc
phúc đặc biệt, thì đều luôn luôn đi kèm lời nhắc nhở rằng, phúc lành này
không chỉ cho riêng dân Do Thái mà thôi, nhưng là, qua họ, mà cho tất cả
mọi dân trên mặt đất nữa. Trong linh đạo Do Thái, phúc lành luôn luôn
là để tuôn đổ qua người nhận mà làm phong phú cho những người khác nữa.
Đạo Hindu, Phật giáo, và Hồi giáo, theo cách riêng của mình, cũng xác
nhận quan niệm này, cụ thể là chỉ khi trao tặng một số ơn ban của mình,
chúng ta mới có thể giữ cho mình được lành mạnh.</span></p>

Mừng, tất nhiên cũng dạy chân lý này, hết lần này đến lần khác và không
nhân nhượng. Ví dụ như trong Tin mừng theo thánh Luca, với lời dạy của
Chúa Giêsu là con lạc đà chui qua lỗ kim còn dễ hơn người giàu có vào
Nước Trời, Ngài cũng khen ngợi những người giàu biết sống quảng đại và
chỉ lên án những người giàu bủn xỉn. Với thánh Luca, lòng quảng đại là
mấu chốt để sống lành mạnh và là chìa khóa vào thiên đàng. Trong Tin
Mừng theo thánh Matthêu, khi đưa ra các câu hỏi trong cuộc phán xét cuối
cùng, Chúa Giêsu đã cho chúng ta một tiêu chuẩn trọn vẹn về những gì
chúng ta phải trao ban cho người nghèo: Con có cho kẻ đói ăn? Con có
cho kẻ khát uống? Con có cho kẻ trần truồng áo mặc? Cuối cùng, và thậm
chí còn mạnh mẽ hơn nữa, trong chuyện bà góa bỏ hai đồng cuối cùng của
mình vào hòm tiền, Chúa Giêsu đòi hỏi chúng ta không chỉ đem cho người
nghèo những của dư thừa, nhưng là cho những gì là thiết yếu sinh nhai
của chúng ta. Các Tin Mừng và trọn cả Thánh Kinh đều mạnh mẽ lên tiếng
đòi hỏi chúng phải trao tặng cho người nghèo, không phải vì họ cần của
từ thiện của chúng ta, dù họ cần thật, nhưng là vì trao tặng là cách duy
nhất để chúng ta giữ mình được lành mạnh.</span></p>

(Rerum Novarum) của giáo hoàng Lêô XIII năm 1891, cho đến tông thư Niềm
vui Tin mừng (Evangelii Gaudium) mới đây của giáo hoàng Phanxicô, chúng
ta đều nghe cùng một điệp khúc. Trong khi chúng ta có quyền về mặt luân
lý để tư hữu, thì quyền đó không phải là tuyệt đối và nó chịu ảnh hưởng
bởi một số điều khác, cụ thể là, chúng ta chỉ có quyền dư dả khi tất cả
mọi người khác đều có được những gì thiết yếu cho cuộc sống. Vì thế,
khi nhìn đến người nghèo luôn luôn phải đi kèm với nhìn lại của dư dả
của chúng ta. Hơn nữa, Huấn giáo Xã hội Công giáo cũng cho chúng ta
biết rằng Thiên Chúa tạo thành địa cầu cho tất cả mọi người và sự thật
này cũng giới hạn cách chúng ta xác định những gì thực sự là của sở hữu
riêng của mình. Nói cho đúng, chúng ta là những người quản lý của cải
của mình, hơn là chủ nhân của chúng. Và tất nhiên, ẩn bên trong tất cả
những điều này là một nhận thức rằng chúng ta có thể sống đạo đức và
lành mạnh chỉ khi biết đặt quyền tư hữu của mình liên đới với bức tranh
lớn hơn bao gồm cả những người nghèo nữa.</span></p>

mạnh. Sự lành mạnh của chúng ta phụ thuộc vào việc chúng ta chia sẻ của
sung túc của mình như thế nào.</span></p>
