Trong ký ức của nhân loại hôm qua cũng như hôm nay, hình ảnh của
Thánh Phan-xi-cô thành Assisi, vị thánh "hành khất", mãi mãi sống động.
Người ta gọi Ngài là bạn của thiên nhiên, là nhà khoa học sinh thái. Tuy
nhiên, để diễn tả đúng đắn và sâu sắc nhất về nhân cách và sự thánh thiện
của Ngài, có lẽ chúng ta phải mượn lời của Philippe Sollers, phát ngôn viên
đài truyền hình Pháp, đã nói trong dịp kỷ niệm 800 năm sinh nhật của Thánh
Nhân :"Thánh Phan-xi-cô thành Assisi chết đang khi hát thánh vịnh...Bên sau
Phan-xi-cô là cuốn Kinh thánh".</span></p>

Câu định nghĩa đó muốn nói với chúng ta rằng : Kinh Thánh, cuốn
sách ghi lại lịch sử thánh, lịch sử của "Dân Giao ước", mà chủ yếu được
trình bày như "cuốn nhật ký" ghi chép những kinh nghiệm và bài ca của những
người nghèo của Gia-vê. Phải chăng, Thánh Phan-xi-cô đã tìm gặp sự đồng cảm
với những người nghèo nầy; và từ "thần hứng" đó, Người đã khám phá và cảm
nhận sâu xa khuôn mặt đích thật của Đức Ki-tô, Người Nghèo vĩ đại nhất,
tuyệt đối nhất của Thiên Chúa.</span></p>

Gặp gỡ một Đức Ki-tô khó nghèo để chiêm ngưỡng cách sống nghèo của Ngài, để
xin Ngài dạy chúng ta biết sống nghèo, trở nên nghèo và đạt được cái nghèo
thật sự như Ngài mong muốn, lại không phải là tiêu đích để Ki-tô hữu nói
chung và người sống thánh hiến nói riêng, phấn đấu và thực hiện mỗi ngày đó
sao ?</span></p>

Trong Kinh thánh, đặc biệt qua môi miệng của Đức Ki-tô trong Tin
Mừng, chúng ta thường thấy "Nghèo" và "Giàu" được trình bày như hai đối cực

Như vậy, để hiểu rõ ý nghĩ của cái "Nghèo" của Đức Ki-tô, chúng ta hãy dừng
lại xem thử "Cái Giàu" bị Đức Ki-tô lên án là cái giàu làm sao.</span></p>

I. Cái giàu bị lên án :</span></p>

Qua Lời Chúa hướng dẫn, chúng ta có thể đọc thấy hai chiều kích
căn bản nầy trong "cái giàu bị lên án" : Loại trừ kẻ khác và qui về mình.</span></p>

1. Loại trừ Thiên Chúa, lấy mình làm điểm tựa :</span></p>

Ngay từ buổi đầu sáng tạo, chúng ta đã thấy xuất hiện cơn cám dỗ
kinh khũng của cái giàu nầy:</span></p>

"Quả nhiên, Thiên Chúa biết :ngày nào các ngươi ăn nó, mắt các ngươi sẽ mở
ra và các ngươi sẽ nên như những Thiên Chúa biết cả tốt xấu" (St 3, 5).</span></p>

"Vì Dân Ta đã làm hai điều bất hảo :chúng đã bỏ Ta, mạch nước hằng sống, để
đào cho mình những cái bể rò, không chứa được nước" (Gr 2, 13).</span></p>

"Hồn ta hỡi, mình bây giờ của cải ê he, dư xài nhiều năm, thôi cứ nghỉ ngơi,
ăn uống, vui chơi cho đả...(Lc 12, 17-21).</span></p>

Chính vì sự bất cần Thiên Chúa, loại trừ Thiên Chúa mà người giàu đã đào một
hố sâu ngăn cách giữa mình và Thiên Chúa.</span></p>

Áp-ra-ham nói với người phú hộ : "Hơn nữa giữa chúng ta đây và các con đã có
một vực thẳm lớn, đến đổi bên nầy muốn qua bên các con cũng không dược, mà
bên đó qua bên chúng ta cũng không được" ((Lc 16, 19-31).</span></p>

2. Loại trừ anh em, không biết chia sẻ.</span></p>

- La-da-rô nghèo khổ, thèm ăn những thức ăn trên bàn ăn của ông ấy rơi xuống
mà ăn cho no nhưng chẳng ai cho (Lc 16, 19-21).</span></p>

- "Mầy sinh ra trong tội ngập tràn đầu, thế mà mầy lại muốn làm thầy chúng
ta ư ?". Rồi họ trục xuất anh. (Ga 9, 34).</span></p>

- Bấy giờ người đồng bạn sấp mình xuống năn nỉ :"Thưa anh, xin rộng lòng
hoãn lại cho tôi, tôi sẽ lo trả anh". Nhưng y không chịu, cứ tống anh ta vào
ngục cho đến khi trả xong nợ. (Mt 18, 29-30).</span></p>

3. Làm bất cứ điều gì, miễn là mình có lợi, có danh.</span></p>

- Vì một điệu vũ, Hê-rô-đê sẵn sàng cho một nửa nước cho con vũ nữ
Hê-rô-đi-a-đê, và xuống tay chém đầu Gioan Tẩy Giả, một ngôn sứ nghèo nàn,
phiêu bạt (Mc 6, 21-28).</span></p>

- Các Thượng tế, sẵn sàng cúi đầu trước Phi-la-tô để bảo vệ quyền lợi, địa
vị của giai cấp "ăn trên ngồi trước", nhưng cũng mau mắn kết án, loại trừ
một Giê-su Na-da-rét, kẻ "không có viên đá gối đầu"</span></p>

Ngày hôm nay người ta và chúng ta có rơi vào cái "giàu" đáng sợ
đó không? Cái giàu loại trừ Thiên Chúa, đóng kín chính mình, lấy mình làm
thước đo mọi sự, điểm tựa cho tất cả ! Trước câu hỏi đó, chúng ta không thể
nói "không". Bởi lẽ xã hội chung quanh ta, ngay cả chúng ta, nhưng người
Ki-tô hữu, những tu sĩ, chúng ta đang bị cám dỗ nặng nề về sự giàu có thế
gian : cơ sở, bằng cấp, phương tiện hoạt động tông đồ, sự dễ dãi, ưu đãi...
để dễ dàng buông lõng, miễn chước thực hiện hy sinh, cầu nguyện, trông cậy,
phó thác.</span></p>

Chúng ta cũng cần lưu ý rằng : khi không còn ngước mắt hướng về
Thiên Chúa trong tin yêu phó thác, thì con người sẽ rơi vào một sự nghèo nàn
kinh khủng, và từ đó sẽ gây nên bao đỗ vỡ trong quan hệ với tha nhân. Những
cuộc chiến tàn khốc trên thế giới xưa nay, những khủng hoảng trong Giáo Hội,
trong các cộng đoàn tu trì, những tình bạn thân yêu trở thành thù địch...tất
cả phải chăng là kết quả của "cái giàu" trần tục bị lên án đó. Trái tim của
những kẻ giàu có đó đã bị gai góc phủ đầy, Lời Chúa không thể phát sinh hoa
trái nào nên hình nên dạng.</span></p>

"Còn kẻ được gieo vào bụi gai là kẻ nghe lời, nhưng nổi lo lắng sự đời, và
bả vinh hoa phú quí bóp nghẹt, khiến lời không sinh hoa kết quả gì" (Mt 13,
22).</span></p>

II. Chiêm ngưỡng Đức Ki-tô khó nghèo.</span></p>

1/. Lựa chọn một thân phận nghèo :</span></p>

- Một gia tộc không hoàn hảo : Trong Bản Gia Phả của Thánh sử Mát-thêu (Mt
1, 1-16) có tên bốn người phụ nữ ngoại đạo : Một người loạn luân (Ta-ma, St
38), một gái mãi dâm (Ra-kháp Gs 2), một người ngoại giáo (Rút R 3-4), một
người ngoại tình (Bát-sê-ba, 2 Sm 11, 12). Khi nhận xét về tính cách bất
toàn trong thân phận nhân loại, hiện thực qua bản gia phả, mà Đức Ki-tô đã
đón nhận khi Nhập thể làm người, Suzanne de Diétrich viết :</span></p>

giới được cứu rỗi, mà không cần lợi lộc nào, vẫn suốt đời dấn thân vì những

nhau, đời thánh hiến dự phần vào sự nghèo khó tột cùng mà Chúa đã sống, và
sự khó nghèo ấy đã đóng trọn vai trò đặc thù của nó trong mầu nhiệm cứu độ

Có thể có một lúc nào đó chúng ta sẽ bị cám dỗ hoài nghi về mục
đích, về kết quả của việc lựa chọn sống nghèo theo Đức Kitô : Sống như thế
liệu có mang lại hạnh phúc cho tôi không ? Cứ sống bình thường như mọi người
cũng tốt thôi ! Có thật sự sống nghèo như thế sẽ mang lại những hiệu quả
thiêng liêng tốt đẹp ?… Để trả lời cho những vấn nạn đó, những hoài nghi
đó, thiết tưởng chúng ta nên nhường lời cho Linh mục Marcello de Carvalho
Azevedo S.J, cựu chủ tịch Hiệp hội Tu sĩ Braxin. Theo Ngài, "cái nghèo, đặc
biệt cái nghèo trong hiện hữu, phát sinh những hoa trái tốt đẹp sau :</span></p>

nhục, bị đối xử bất công…Nó giúp ta không đặt quá nhiều hy vọng vào người
ta, để rồi bị thất vọng về người ta; trái lại, chỉ nương tựa vào một mình
Chúa mà thôi. Chúng ta được tự do, không bị tác động bởi dư luận, hay bởi tự
ái.</span></p>

là như thế, tôi không có ảo tưởng tốt đẹp về con người của tôi"</span></p>

Kết : Cơn cám dỗ triền miên của nhân loại muôn nơi muôn thuở vẫn
là "sự giàu có thế gian" trong cả hai chiều kích vật chất cũng như tinh
thần. Cơn cám dỗ nầy ngày nay lại núp đưới nhiều hình thức được nguỵ trang
bằng nhiều lớp vỏ : nhiều cơ sở, phương tiện tốt để phục vụ tốt. Bằng cấp,
học vị để có đủ uy tín làm việc. Phải hoà nhập, ngang tầm với xã hội kẻo bị
đào thãi. Người ta có gì mình phải có nấy mới khỏi lạc hậu... Nêu không tỉnh
táo và nhận định một cách sáng suốt theo sát chỉ dẫn của Tin Mừng chúng ta
dễ có nguy cơ đánh mất căn tính của đời thánh hiến, cuôc đời chỉ có ý nghĩa
khi sống triệt để lời mời gọi "Khó Nghèo".</span></p>

quanh ta, chúng ta sẽ đễ dàng hiểu rõ hơn dụ ngôn "Người Sa-ma-ri tốt lành"
và cũng dễ khám ra rằng : còn có nhiều người đang sống cái sứ điệp "nghèo"
của Chúa Ki-tô hơn chúng ta bội phần, mặc dầu họ không khấn giữ nhân đức nầy

- Những nông dân chân lấm tay bùn, công nhân vất vả với đồng lương ốm
đói, những học sinh, sinh viên chịu đói chịu khát chịu khổ đủ điều để phấn
đấu cho tương lai bằng một đời sống tốt lành chân chất. Và rồi, những bệnh
nhân, trẻ em mồ côi, những tù nhân... trong số những con người đó, có bao
người đón nhận mọi bất hạnh với niềm tin yêu phó thác. Phải chăng họ là
những chứng nhân của "cái nghèo theo Tin Mừng" mà chúng ta không ngừng học
hỏi, khám phá, đồng hành và phục vụ. Đó cũng chính là kinh nghiệm đặc biệt
