Quan niệm trọng nam khinh nữ, lối sống gia trưởng, và cung cách hành xử
như thế hoàn toàn phản lại với vai trò, trách nhiệm và phẩm giá của
người phụ nữ. Vì nam hay nữ, đàn ông hay đàn bà cũng đều do Thượng Đế
tạo dựng: “Thiên Chúa đã tạo dựng con người theo hình ảnh Ngài. Ngài tạo
dựng nên họ có nam và có nữ” (Sáng Thế Ký 1:27). Do đó, giá trị nhân
bản, phẩm cách con người ngang nhau, bằng nhau và phải được tôn trọng

khỏi bị cho là mất mặt hoặc mất giá qua những hành động quan tâm, lo
lắng, và săn sóc vợ, giới đàn ông thường tự nhủ: Đàn ông ai lại sợ vợ,
có sợ là sợ vợ buồn, sợ vợ yêu mình quá nên ghen tương tí thôi. Và sợ
như vậy là cái sợ mà cả hai đều có lợi. Thí dụ, sợ vợ buồn, vợ quá lo
lắng cho sức khỏe của mình mà chừa uống rượu, chừa hút thuốc, và chừa
nhậu nhoẹt, la cà với người này người khác. Hoặc sợ vợ ghen mà hại cho
sức khỏe, tàn phai nhan sắc nên mỗi khi ra đường, người chồng mắt nhìn
nghiêm trang, không ngó ngang, liếc dọc, hoặc tối về không email, chat
chít với em gái nuôi, em gái tinh thần hoặc cô bạn trong sở đang gặp khó
khăn cần nhờ giúp đỡ… Cũng có thể sợ vợ la mắng làm gương xấu trước mặt
con cháu trong nhà mà nhịn vợ, tập sống cho ngăn nắp, gọn gàng, sạch sẽ.
Rồi vì lo lắng cho sức khỏe của vợ nên giúp vợ một tay thay tã, tắm rửa,
cho con bú, ru con ngủ, làm việc vườn tược, hút bụi nhà, đổ thùng rác,
giặt quần áo, lau dọn nhà cửa… Nhất là để chăm chút cho sắc đẹp của vợ,
mà chồng đi làm được bao nhiêu tiền đều đem về cho vợ shopping, mua sắm
để mỗi khi ra đường “không xấu thiếp hổ chàng”. Tóm lại, những hình thức
sợ trên là những hình thức “sợ vợ sống lâu”, và sợ như thế là sợ vợ mình
chứ không sợ vợ hàng xóm.</span></p>

Phân tích thêm nội dung cuộc khảo cứu, khi quay lại cảnh các đôi thảo
luận về từng vấn đề này trong vòng 10 phút. Thí dụ, tiền bạc, tự do
quyết định, việc nhà, thời gian bên nhau, giao hảo giữa gia đình và bạn
bè, sinh lý, xã giao, cảm xúc bên nhau, con cái… Kết quả của cuộc khảo
cứu này đã có những kết luận hết sức ngạc nhiên, đó là hầu như mọi đòi
hỏi, yêu sách của các bà vợ đều đạt được mục đích, mặc dù trong lúc thảo
luận, trao đổi đôi bên đều dùng những từ ngữ mang tính tiêu cực như
trách móc, buộc tội, chỉ trích, rầy la, ép buộc thay đổi, ra lệnh; hoặc
những thái độ như lạnh lùng, miễn cưỡng. Ngoài ra, những phụ nữ trong
cuộc khảo cứu này lại không hề lắm lời như người ta tưởng. Theo Vogel
phân tích sở dĩ phụ nữ được lắng nghe bởi vì họ truyền đi những thông
điệp tích cực, và cũng có thể là do sự “nhịn nhục” và không muốn bị rầy
rà của phía đàn ông. Một câu ví von diễn tả mối tương qua và “quyền
hành” của người vợ trong gia đình là: “Đàn ông làm đại tướng, nhưng đàn
bà làm nội tướng”. Ở một nghĩa nào đó, nội tướng thắng đại tướng. Ca dao
Việt Nam cũng có câu: “Lệnh ông không bằng cồng bà”. Và đó cũng là lý do
tại sao vai trò người phụ nữ trong gia đình được cho là “nội tướng”. </span></p>
