Bắt đầu mùa Chay năm nay, Giáo Phận Phan Thiết đón nhận một sứ điệp
“không lời” từ vị cha chung. Ngài đã gửi đến toàn thể dân Chúa trong
giáo phận (và có lẽ trên bình diện rộng hơn cho cả các tín hữu trong
toàn Giáo Hội Việt Nam) sự mời gọi hoán cải và một sự nhắc nhở về
thân phận mỏng manh của con người. Ngài đã thực hiện điều đó cách
triệt để nhất bằng chính cuộc đời của ngài. Ngài được mời gọi để
bước vào chính tâm điểm của mầu nhiệm sự chết để nói về sự chết cho
chính những người còn sống, như lời Thánh Vịnh xưa đã nhắc dạy, “<i>Nào
phàm nhân sống mãi được sao, mà chẳng phải đến ngày tận số</i></span></font></span><font face="Verdana" style="font-family: FontStyle, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span lang="VI" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: black; line-height: 21px"><font face="Times New Roman" style="font-size: 14pt"><span lang="VI" style="color: black; line-height: 21px">?”
(Tv. 49) Cái chết đến bất ngờ nhưng không phải để ta sợ hãi; nhưng
ngược lại nó nhắc ta đón phải đón nhận nó cách nào. Sứ điệp nhẹ
nhàng vui tươi của Đức Cha khi sinh thời đã phần nào nói lên thái độ
sống mà ngài muốn gửi gắm đến con cái của ngài, “<i>Dù giông tố, dù

một vị ngôn sứ, một mục tử đã lìa bỏ thân xác cát bụi để cát bụi ấy
trở về nguồn cội. Nhưng trong ánh quang Phục Sinh của Đức Kitô,
người mục tử ấy vẫn tràn ngập hi vọng và mừng vui đợi chờ ngày nhập
đoàn hàng ngũ các thánh, hàng ngũ của những “người bạn” hằng lớn lên
trong tình yêu của Thiên Chúa.</font></span></p>
