giá trị thiêng liêng của thánh lễ nói chung và giá trị của việc có nhiếu
linh mục đống tế trong các lể cưới và lễ tang. Nhân câu hỏi trên, tôi
xin được nhắc lại giáo lý của Giáo Hội về các vấn đề này như sau:<br>

<font size="3">- Trước hết, chúng ta phải hiểu rõ rằng Phụng vụ thánh (Sacred
Liturgy),- mà cao điểm là Thánh Lễ Tạ Ơn (Eucharist) (hay còn gọi là Lễ
Misa)- là “đỉnh cao và nguồn mạch của đời sống Giáo Hội” (x. Hiến Chế về
Phụng Vụ Thánh SC, số 10). Sở dĩ thế, vì Thánh Lễ Tạ Ơn ngày nay chính
là Hy tế thập giá Chúa Kitô đã một lần dâng lên Chúa Cha trên thập giá
năm xưa để đền tội thay cho nhân loại đáng phải phạt và chết đời đời vì
tội. Đồng thời cũng diễn lại Bữa ăn cuối cùng của Chúa Giêsu với Nhóm
12, nhân đó, Chúa đã lập Phép Thánh Thể và Chức Linh Mục, một điều mà
các giáo phái ngoài Công Giáo và Chính Thống Giáo không tin.<br>

qua tác vụ (ministerium) của Giáo Hội là Thân thể nhiệm mầu của Chúa

<font size="3">Nói rõ hơn, mỗi khi Thánh lễ Tạ Ơn được cử hành trên bàn thờ ở bất cứ
nơi nào trong Giáo Hội thì chính Chúa Kitô lại hiện diện cách nhiệm mầu
qua cá nhân thừa tác viên con người là linh mục hay Giàm mục để diễn lại
bữa tiệc ly và dâng lại Hy Tế năm xưa trên thập giá để xin Chúa Cha ban
ơn cứu chụộc cho chúng ta ngày nay như Giáo Hội dạy: “Mỗi lần Hy tế thập
giá được cử hành trên bàn thờ, nhờ đó Chúa Giêsu, Chiên vượt qua của
chúng ta chịu hiến tế (1Cor 5,7) thì công cuộc cứu chuộc chúng ta được
thực hiện.” (x. Lumem Gentium, số 3)<br>

<font size="3">Như thế có nghĩa là chính Chúa Giê su là Chủ tế của mọi thánh Lễ Tạ Ơn,
nhưng Chúa thực hiện qua công cụ loài người là các thừa tác viên có chức
thánh (ordained ministers) trong hàng tư tế (Sacerdos) như linh mục, và
đặc biệt là Giám mục, tức những người được chia sẻ trọn vẹn Chức Linh
Mục đời đời của Chúa Kitô, “Thầy Cả Thượng Phẩm theo phẩm trật
Men-ki-xê-đê” (x. Dt 5:6) (Hồng Y và chính Đức Giáo Hoàng cũng chỉ là
Thừa tác viên như linh mục và Giám mục khi dâng Thánh Lễ Tạ Ơn mà thôi).<br>

<font size="3">Vì không phải cá nhân linh mục hay giám mục dâng lễ mà chính Chúa Kitô
mượn tay và miệng lưỡi của các ngài để diễn lại bữa tiệc ly và dâng lại
Hy tế thập giá cách nhiệm mầu, hay bí tích trên bàn thờ ngày nay, để xin
ơn cứu độ cho chúng ta cùng thể thức và giá trị như ơn ấy được ban lần
đầu cho nhân loại qua cái chết của Chúa Giêsu trên thập giá năm xưa.<br>

<font size="3">- Như vậy, tuyệt đối không có sự khác biệt nào giữa thánh lễ của một
linh mục cử hành và thánh lễ của một giám mục hay của Đức Thánh Cha. Tất
cả các ngài, tuy khác nhau về chức thánh, và quyền bính trong Giáo Hội,
nhưng khi cử hành Thánh Lễ Tạ Ơn (The Eucharist) thì các ngài không nhân
danh cá nhân mình mà nhân danh Chúa Kitô = In persona Christi. Nghĩa là
chính “Chúa Kitô là Tư Tế duy nhất, còn các vị khác chỉ là thừa tác viên
của Ngài” (Th. Tôma, Hebr, 7,4; SGLGHCG, số 1545)<br>

<font size="3">Với nhãn quan con người thì nhiều người lầm tưởng rằng tham dự thánh lễ
của một giám mục và nhất là của Đức Thánh Cha thì có giá trị và ơn ích
thiêng liêng hơn là dự lễ của một linh mục tầm thường. Điều này hoàn

<font size="3">2. Về câu hỏi thứ hai, tôi xin nhắc lại điều đã có lần trả lời. Cũng
theo nhãn quan con người thì, lễ tang, lễ cưới … nếu có nhiều linh mục
đống tế, và đặc biệt có Giám mục hay Hồng Y chủ tế, thì trước hết đó là
vinh dự, hãnh diện lớn lao cho gia chủ. Ngoài ra, người ta cũng nghĩ
rằng có nhiều linh mục đồng tế thì có nhiều ơn ích thiêng liêng cho
người sống hay chết. Vì thế, ở các Cộng Đoàn Việt Nam (và chỉ riêng có
giáo dân VN mà thôi; các sắc dân khác, không có thói quen này), người ta
thường cố mời nhiều linh mục đến đồng tế trong các dịp lễ tang, lễ giỗ
hay lễ cưới.<br>

rằng: Chúa ban ơn không phải vì có nhiều linh mục hay giám mục đồng tế
trong các dịp nói trên, mà chủ yếu là vì lòng thương xót vô biên và công

<font size="3">Thật vậy, nếu một người đã hướng trọn đời mình về Chúa và quyết tâm sống
theo đường lối của Ngài thì đó mới là bảo đảm chắc hơn cho phần rỗi của
mình, như Chúa Giê su đã nói với các môn đệ xưa: “Không phải bất ai thưa
với Thầy: Lậy Chúa, lậy Chúa mà được vào Nước Trời cả đâu. Nhưng chỉ ai
thi hành ý muốn của Cha Thầy, là Đấng ngự trên trời mới được vào mà
thôi.” (Mt 7: 21)<br>

<font size="3">Như vậy, nếu một người đã không quyết tâm tìm kiếm, yêu mến và sống theo
đường lối của Chúa, hay nói cách khác, đã từ khước Ngài suốt cả đời
mình, thì khi chết dù có Đức Thánh Cha và hàng trăm giám mục, linh mục
đồng tế thì cũng vô ích mà thôi. Ngược lại, một người đã ra đi trong ơn
nghĩa Chúa, hay ít là trong giờ sau hết đã kịp thời quay trở lại với
Chúa và xin Ngài thương tha thứ, thì cho dù không có linh mục cử hành lễ
tang hoặc không có linh mục nào đồng tế thì cũng không thiệt thòi gì về
mặt thiêng liêng cả vì Chúa rất nhân từ và công minh khi phán xét con
cái loài người. Đây là điều chúng ta phải tin và cậy trông.<br>

<font size="3">Tóm lại, muốn được cứu rỗi thì, trước hết, phải cậy nhờ lòng thương xót
vô biên của Thiên Chúa nhờ công nghiệp cứu chuộc vô giá của Chúa Kitô,
nhưng cũng đòi hỏi thêm phần đóng góp của con người qua nỗ lực tìm kiếm,
yêu mến và sống theo đường lối của Chúa. Nếu không có sự đóng góp cần
thiết này thì Chúa không thể cứu ai được, nói chi nhờ nhiều người khác
cầu nguyện thay cho sau khi chết.<br>
