Danh xưng này được dùng để chỉ các Giám mục hay giáo dân đã có những
tác phẩm hay bài viết, bài giảng có nội dung giáo lý, (doctrines)
tín lý (dogmas) và thần học (Theology ) sâu sắc, tinh tuyền, phản ảnh
trung thực các chân lý của Đức Tin mà chính Chúa Kitô đã giảng dạy, đã
mặc khải và truyền lại cho các Tông Đồ tiên khởi. Như thế, các Giáo
Phụ là những người không những có đời sống thánh thiên gương mẫu mà
còn giảng dạy, quảng bá và bênh vực các chân lý của Phúc Âm để
chống lại các bè rối (heretics) và những kẻ dạy sai lạc giáo lý tinh
tuyền do các Tông Đồ truyền lại, như Thánh Phaolô đã nhắc nhở
môn đệ của ngài là Ti-mô-Thê như sau:</span></p>

Phương. Các vị thuộc Giáo Hội Latinh, tức Giáo Hội Công Giáo Phương
Tây, gồm có: Thánh Ambrose (mất năm 397), Thánh Jerome (420) Thánh

năm sống ở đây và mất năm 1897 khi mới 24 tuổi, đã để lại cho
Giáo Hội một di sản thiêng liêng hiêm quý. Vì thế, bà đã được phong
Tiến Sĩ Hội Thánh năm 2000, vì Giáo Hội nhìn nhận con đường tu đức
đơn sơ nhưng sâu sắc và gương sống thánh thiên, khiêm nhu của bà,
