Biết Thiên Chúa là tình thương , mà quả thật Người là tình thương, thì
lẽ tự nhiên ta phải yêu mến Người với tất cả tâm trí và nghị lực để đáp
trả phần nào tình thương quá lạ lùng của Chúa dành cho con người. Vả
Lại, yêu mến Chúa chỉ có lợi cho ta chứ Chúa không được lợi lộc gì vì
Người đã quá đủ hạnh phúc , vinh quang và giầu sang nên không cần ai
thêm gì cho Người nữa. </span></p>

Tuy nhiên, vì Thiên Chúa tạo dựng con người với hai đặc tính độc đáo là
có lý trí và ý muốn tự do ( intelligence and free will) và Thiên Chúa
hoàn toàn tôn trọng cho con người sử dụng hai khả năng đó, nên vấn đề
thưởng phạt mới được đặt ra cho riêng con người mà thôi.Nghĩa là nếu con
người , qua lý trí, nhận biết có Thiên Chúa là Đấng tạo thành trời đất
và muôn vật – trong đó có con người- thì con người phải sử dụng ý muốn
tự do của mình để chọn yêu mến Chúa và sống theo đường lối của Người để
được cứu rỗi và vui hưởng hạnh phúc Nước Trời.</span></p>

Nhưng con người phải tỏ thiện chí muốn yêu mến Chúa bằng hành động cụ
thể để chứng minh, chứ không thể nói suông ngoài môi miệng được, như

Là con người , ai lại không muốn hạnh phúc, sung sướng và bình an ? nên
yếu mến Chúa là yêu mến chính nguồn hạnh phúc, an vui vĩnh cửu đó.Như
thế, chỉ có lợi cho con người khi chọn yêu mến Chúa, chứ tuyệt đối không
có lợi lộc gì cho Chúa hết. Chúng ta phải xác tín điều này, để đừng ai
nghĩ rằng Thiên Chúa được lợi lộc gì khi ta yêu mến và tuân giữ các giới
răn của Người. .</span></p>

Đó là điều chắc chắn ta phải tin khi thi hành các Điều Răn của Chúa để
không giết người, trộm cắp. gian dâm, thông dâm, mãi dâm, ấu dâm, phái
thai, ly dị, thù oán người khác, kỳ thị chủng tộc, nói xấu , vu cáo làm
hại danh dự và đời tư của người khác, bất công , bóc lột người làm công
cho mình, và dửng dưng trước sự đau khổ, nghèo đói của anh chị em đồng
loại, và nhất là, buôn bán phụ nữ và trẻ gái cho kỹ nghệ mãi dâm và ấu
dâm rất khốn nạn và tội lỗi,như thực trạng của thế giới vô luân vô đạo
hiện nay.</span></p>

như Chúa Giêsu đã dạy trên đây. Ngược lại, nếu ai dùng “ ý muốn tự do=
free will để làm những sự dữ nói trên thì đã tự ý và công khai khước từ
Thiên Chúa và tình thương của Người. Như thế họ phải lãnh chịu mọi hậu
quả của việc mình làm vì tự do chọn lựa. </span></p>

Chính vì con người có tự do để chọn lựa , hoặc sống theo đường lối của
Chúa để được chúc phúc; hay khước từ Chúa để sống theo ý riêng mình và
chạy theo những lôi cuốn của thế gian , nhất là những cám dỗ của ma quỉ
để tôn thờ tiền bạc, của cải vật chất và mọi thú vui vô luân vô đạo,
như thực trạng sống của con người ở khắp nơi trong thế gian tục hóa
ngày nay.Nếu ai chọn sống như vậy, thì cũng đã tự ý chọn nơi cư ngụ cuối
cùng cho mình, sau khi phải chết trong thân xác có ngày phải chết đi
này.Thiên Chúa yêu thương con người và đã cứu chuộc con người nhờ Chúa
Kitô. Nhưng Thiên Chúa cũng gớm ghét mọi tội lỗi, vì tội lỗi và sự dữ đi
ngược lại với bản chất yêu thương, công bình và thánh thiện của Người. .</span></p>

Nhưng cho dù Thiên Chúa quá yêu thương con người như vậy, mà con người
không cộng tác với ơn cứu chuộc của Chúa Kitô, bằng quyết tâm sống theo
đường lối của Chúa và xa tránh mọi sự dữ và tội lỗi thì Chúa vẫn không
thể cứu ai được. Lý do là Chúa không tiêu diệt hết mọi tội lỗi và vì
con người còn có tự do để cộng tác với ơn cứu chuộc của Chúa , hay khước
từ ơn cứu chuộc này để sống theo thế gian và làm nô lệ cho ma quỉ, kẻ
thù của Thiên Chúa.</span></p>

Như vậy, nếu Thiên Đàng là nơi dành cho những ai thực tâm yêu mến Chúa,
tuân giữ các giới răn của Người và quyết tâm xa tránh mọi tội lỗi, thì
hỏa ngục phải là nơi dành cho những ai đã cố ý khước từ Chúa và tình
thương của Người để sống theo ma quỷ và làm những sự dữ nói trên , như
đang diễn ra ở khắp nơi trên thế giới trống vắng niềm tin này. Như thế,
phải có hỏa ngục dành cho những kẻ gian ác đã tự ý chọn cho mình nơi ở
vinh viễn xa lìa Thiên Chúa ngay từ ở đời này. Nghĩa là họ đã tự ý chọn
hỏa ngục vì cách sống của họ, chứ không phải vì Thiên Chúa muốn phạt ai
ở chốn này, vì Người là Cha đầy yêu thương và “ </span>

Ngược lại, chỉ những ai tội lỗi mà không hề sám hối để xin Chúa tha thứ
, đặc biệt là tội phạm đến Chúa Thánh Thần, tức tội hoàn toàn từ chối
lòng thương sót của Chúa cho đến chết , thì sẽ không bao giờ được tha
thứ, như Chúa Giê su đã nói rõ trong Tin Mừng Thánh Marcô.( Mc 3: 29)</span></p>

Lại nữa, những ai chết đang khi mắc tội trọng ( mortal sin) thì cũng
chịu hình phạt hỏa ngục, căn cứ theo giáo lý của Giáo Hội. ( X SGLGHCG,
số 1035) . Tuy nhiên , cần nói lại là Thiên Chúa không tiền định cho ai
phải xuống hỏa ngục , hoặc muốn phạt ai trong nơi </span>

ai dùng tự do này để xa lìa Chúa , để tự do làm những sự dữ mà không hề
biết ăn năn, xin Chúa thứ tha thì đã tự ý chọn hỏa ngục làm nơi cư ngụ
cuối cùng cho mình.</span></p>

Trái với hỏa ngục , Luyên ngục hay Luyên tội ( Purgatory) là nơi các
linh hồn thánh ( holy souls) được thanh luyện để đạt được sự thánh
thiện cần thiết trước khi vào Thiên Đàng vui hưởng Thánh Nhan Chúa là
nguồn vui hạnh phúc của các thánh và các thiên thần.Các linh hồn đang “
tạm trú” ở đây là những người đã ra đi trong ơn nghĩa Chúa, tức là được
bảo đảm về ơn cứu độ, nhưng vẫn cần được thanh luyện để đạt mức thánh
thiện cân xứng trước khi gia nhập hàng ngũ các Thánh trên Thiên Quốc.
Các linh hồn thánh này không thể làm thêm việc thiện, và cũng không thể
phạm tội được nữa vì thời giờ đã mãn cho họ trên trần gian này. Vì thế,
trong khi còn được thanh luyện ở nơi đây, các linh hồn mong đợi các
Thánh trên Thiên Đàng và các tín hữu còn sống cứu giúp họ bằng lời cầu
nguyện và các việc lành. Ngược lại, các linh hồn cũng có thể cầu xin đắc
lực cho các tín hữu còn sống trên trần thế và trong Giáo Hội lữ hành.
Nhưng các Thánh trên Trời, các linh hồn thánh trong Luyện ngục và các
tin hữu còn sống không thể giúp gì cho các linh hồn đã lìa xa Chúa trong
hỏa ngục, vì không có sự hiệp thông nào giữa nơi này với Thiên Đàng,
Luyện ngục và Giáo Hội đang lữ hành trên trần thế.</span></p>

Tín điều này dạy: chỉ có sự hiệp thông giữa Giáo Hội vinh thắng (
Triumphal Church) trên trời và Giáo Hội lữ hành ( Pilgrim Church) trên
trần thế cùng với Giáo Hội đau khổ ( Suffering Church) trong Luyện Tội.
Nghĩa là các Thánh trên Trời , các linh hồn thánh trong Luyện tội và các
tín hữu còn sống và đang hiệp thông với Giáo Hội, cả ba thành phần này
được hiệp thông với nhau trong cùng một niềm tin, tôn thờ Thiên Chúa ,
nhờ Chúa Kitô và trong Chúa Thánh Thần.</span></p>

Các Thánh nam nữ trên trời hiệp thông với các linh hồn thánh trong Luyện
Tội và các tín hữu trên trần gian bằng lời nguyện giúp cầu thay đắc lực
trước Tòa Chúa cho các linh hồn và các tín hữu còn sống. Các linh hồn
trong Luyện tội không thể tự giúp mình được nhưng có thể cầu xin cho các
tin hữu còn sống. Các tín hữu có thể làm việc lành như cầu nguyện. làm
việc bác ái và xin lễ cầu cho các linh hồn trong Luyên Tội ( cách riêng
trong tháng 11 là thánh dành cầu nguyện cho các linh hồn) được mau vào
Thiên Đàng hưởng Thánh Nhan Chúa. </span></p>

Như thế, chỉ có những ai đang xa lìa Chúa ở chốn hỏa ngục thì không
được thông hiệp với các Thánh trên trời , các Linh hồn trong Luyện tội
và các Tín hữu còn sống trên trần gian này.Do đó, không ai có thể làm
gì để cứu giúp họ được nữa.</span></p>

Vậy chúng ta hãy cố gắng sống theo Đường lối của Chúa và cậy nhờ công
nghiệp cứu chuộc cực trọng của Chúa Kitô, Đấng đã vui lòng vác thập giá
và chết đau thuong trên thập giá mà Giáo Hội long trọng cử hành trong
Tuần Thánh này, để hy vọng được hưởng nhờ công nghiệp cứu chuộc đó mà
vào Nước Trời hưởng Thánh Nhan Chúa trên cõi vĩnh hằng, sau khi kết
thúc hành trình con người trên trần thế này.Amen.</span></p>
