Chúa là Thiên Chúa, làm sao con có thể biết con sẽ được xứ
đó làm gia nghiệp?" Chúa đáp: "Ngươi hãy bắt một con bò cái
ba tuổi, một con dê cái ba tuổi, một con cừu đực ba tuổi,
một con chim gáy mái và một con bồ câu non". Abram bắt tất
cả những con vật ấy, chặt ra làm đôi, đặt phân nửa này đối
diện với phân nửa kia; nhưng ông không chặt đôi các con
chim. Các mãnh cầm lao xuống trên những con vật vừa bị giết,
song ông Abram đuổi chúng đi. Lúc mặt trời lặn, Abram ngủ
mê; một cơn sợ hãi khủng khiếp và u tối bao trùm lấy ông.</span></font></p>

ngủ mê, chợt tỉnh dậy, thấy vinh quang của Chúa và hai vị
đang đứng với Người. Lúc hai vị từ biệt Chúa, Phêrô thưa
cùng Chúa Giêsu rằng: "Lạy Thầy, chúng con được ở đây thì
tốt lắm; chúng con xin làm ba lều, một cho Thầy, một cho
Môsê, và một cho Êlia". Khi nói thế, Phêrô không rõ mình nói
gì. Lúc ông còn đang nói, thì một đám mây bao phủ các Ngài
và thấy các ngài biến vào trong đám mây, các môn đệ đều kinh
hoàng. Bấy giờ từ đám mây có tiếng phán rằng: "Đây là Con Ta
yêu dấu, các ngươi hãy nghe lời Người". Và khi tiếng đang
phán ra, thì chỉ thấy còn mình Chúa Giêsu. Suốt thời gian
đó, các môn đệ giữ kín không nói với ai những điều mình đã
chứng kiến. Đó là lời Chúa.</span></font></p>

Mạo Lòng Thương Xót trình bày cho ta thấy dung mạo lòng
thương xót của Chúa Cha chính là Đức Giê-su, một Đức Giê-su
vừa đau khổ u buồn vừa hân hoan vui mừng. Đau khổ cùng với
nỗi đau của con người, đặc biệt đau khổ trong cuộc Khổ Nạn.
Hân hoan trong tình yêu với Chúa Cha và với con người, hân
hoan vì yêu và được yêu. Ngài yêu mến Chúa Cha, yêu thương
con người; Ngài được Chúa Cha yêu lại: <em>“Đây là Con Ta
yêu dấu,”</em> cũng như được nhiều người, nhất là môn đệ,
yêu thương đáp trả. Kinh nghiệm tình yêu cho ta biết rằng
yêu là chấp nhận đau khổ, nhưng yêu cũng đồng nghĩa với còn
hy vọng, niềm vui. Dung mạo Đức Giê-su vui tươi, hy vọng vì
yêu thương, tin tưởng nơi con người; dung mạo ấy lắm lúc
đượm vẻ đau buồn cũng vì yêu con người, yêu cho đến cùng.</font></p>
