đi đến Ninivê, một thành phố lớn, và rao giảng cho nó điều Ta sẽ nói cho
ngươi". Giona chỗi dậy và đi đến Ninivê theo lời Chúa dạy. Ninivê là một
thành phố lớn, rộng bằng ba ngày đàng. Giona tiến vào thành phố, đi một ngày
đàng, rồi rao giảng rằng: "Còn bốn mươi ngày nữa, Ninivê sẽ bị phá huỷ". Dân
thành tin tưởng nơi Chúa; họ công bố việc ăn chay và mặc áo nhặm, từ người

vàng, cởi áo cẩm bào, mặc áo nhặm và ngồi trên đống tro. Trong thành Ninivê,
người ta rao sắc lệnh sau đây của nhà vua và các vương hầu: "Người, vật, bò,
chiên, không được nếm, không được ăn uống gì hết; người và vật phải mặc áo
nhặm, phải kêu to lên cùng Chúa và phải cải thiện đời sống, phải bỏ đàng tội
lỗi và những điều bất chính đã phạm. Biết đâu Chúa sẽ đổi ý thứ tha, nguôi
giận và chúng ta khỏi chết?" Chúa thấy việc họ làm, vì họ bỏ đời sống xấu
xa, Chúa đổi ý định phạt họ, và Người không thực hiện điều đó. Đó là lời

James F. Keenan, Dòng Tên, khai triển một luận đề luân lý rất thú vị rằng “<em>người
ta phạm tội vì họ quá mạnh chứ không phải vì họ quá yếu</em>.” Nghịch lý này
còn được thấy nơi nhiều trường hợp khác nữa. Thiếu, không phải vì thiếu, mà
vì có quá nhiều. Như cá giữa đại dương mà loay hoay đi tìm… nước! Như người
Việt Nam ta từng bị mang tiếng là ‘chết trên đống thuốc’ (có ý nói rất nhiều
cây cỏ quen thuộc của chúng ta là những vị thuốc quí giá mà ta không ngờ!).
Chung qui, vấn đề nằm ở chỗ hoặc do người ta vô minh, hoặc do bướng bỉnh,
hoặc do cả hai. Đây cũng là vấn đề của những người Do Thái thời Đức Giê-su.
Họ có <strong><em>điều quí nhất</em></strong> trong tầm tay, nhưng họ không
nhận ra, và họ mải kiếm tìm những thứ khác thôi.</font></font></p>

Do Thái háo hức đòi hỏi Chúa <em>“một dấu lạ từ trời”, </em>nhưng Ngài lên
án họ là <em>“thế hệ gian ác” </em>vì họ đã không nhận biết <em>“dấu lạ
Giô-na”</em> trong đời thường của họ. Cũng như Giô-na với lời rao giảng
thống hối trở nên dấu lạ để nhờ đó dân thành Ni-ni-vê ăn năn sám hối, thì
giờ đây chính Chúa Giê-su, qua cuộc khổ nạn và phục sinh của Ngài, cũng trở
nên <em>“dấu lạ Giô-na”</em> cho toàn dân. Thật đáng tiếc họ đã chỉ tìm kiếm
những dấu lạ “bất thường” nhằm mục đích “thử thách” Chúa (Lc 11,16) thay vì
nhận biết những dấu lạ trong đời thường để ăn năn sám hối.</font></font></p>

nhiều “dấu lạ” đã đi qua cuộc đời, quá nhiều ơn lành đã vụt mất, ta vẫn
“trôi theo dòng đời” như “bèo dạt mây trôi”. Phải chăng chúng ta cũng thuộc
về thế hệ gian ác mà Đức Giê-su đề cập hôm nay?! Phải có can đảm và thẳng
thắn để nhận ra sự thật này: Tôi sẽ trở nên <em>“gian ác” </em>trước mặt
Chúa, nếu tôi cố tình không nhận ra những dấu lạ của Ngài trong đời tôi. Mà
những dấu lạ đó, chính là cuộc sống với những “cái bình thường” của nó, chứ
không phải những “cái bất thường”. Có bao giờ bạn “dừng chân” để khám phá
“những dấu lạ” của Chúa trong đời mình chưa?</font></font></p>

lại câu chuyện Giona là dấu lạ giúp dân thành Ninivê sám hối, Chúa Giêsu
muốn mời gọi người Do Thái cũng nhận ra Ngài là dấu chỉ để mọi người sám hối
và tin vào Tin Mừng mà Ngài rao giảng để được cứu độ. Chúa Giêsu còn nhấn
mạnh rằng Ngài là dấu chỉ còn lớn lao cao trọng hơn dấu chỉ Giona bội phần
khi Ngài ám chỉ sự tích Giona ở trong bụng ba ngày trước khi đến rao giảng
cho dân Ninivê chỉ là hình bóng của việc Ngài sẽ sống lại sau ba ngày chịu
chôn táng trong mộ. Dấu lạ của Ngài chính là dấu lạ phục sinh. Tiếc thay
người Do Thái chỉ vì yêu sách dấu lạ theo ý muốn ngang tàng, thiếu thái độ
tin tưởng cách đơn sơ chân thành họ đã không đón nhận dấu lạ để được ơn cứu
độ.</font></font></p>
