<font face="Arial">Đây Chúa là Thiên Chúa phán: "Ngươi hãy
hô to, và đừng ngừng tiếng; hãy làm cho tiếng ngươi vang dội
như tiếng kèn, và loan báo cho dân Ta biết sự bất trung của
họ, cho nhà Giacóp biết tội lỗi của nó. Vì hằng ngày họ tìm
kiếm Ta, và ước mong biết đường lối Ta, như một dân tộc thực
hiện công lý và không bỏ lề luật Chúa. Họ hỏi Ta về quy tắc
công lý và ước mong đến gần Thiên Chúa: "Tại sao chúng con
ăn chay mà Chúa không thấy? Tại sao chúng con hãm mình mà
Chúa không hay biết?" Phải, trong ngày ăn chay, các ngươi lo
dàn xếp công việc làm ăn, các ngươi hối thúc mọi người làm
công. Phải, các ngươi ăn chay trong sự cãi vã, ẩu đả và đánh
nhau hung tợn. Các ngươi đừng ăn chay như xưa nay, là cố la
lớn tiếng cho người ta nghe. Có phải đó là việc ăn chay mà
Ta mong muốn, có phải như thế là ngày hãm mình không? Gục
đầu như bông sậy, mặc áo thô, nằm trên đống tro, có phải đó
là ăn chay, là ngày làm cho Chúa hài lòng không? Nào ăn chay
như Ta mong muốn không phải như thế này sao, là huỷ bỏ xiềng
xích bất công, tháo gỡ ách nặng, trả tự do cho kẻ bị áp bức,
dẹp bỏ mọi gánh nặng; hãy chia cơm bánh cho kẻ đói, tiếp
rước những kẻ phiêu bạt không nhà; nếu ngươi gặp một người
trần truồng, hãy cho họ áo mặc, ngươi đừng khinh bỉ người
cùng xác thịt như mình. Như thế, sự sáng ngươi tỏ rạng như
hừng đông, các vết thương ngươi sẽ lành nhanh chóng; công lý
ngươi sẽ đi trước mặt ngươi, vinh quang Chúa sẽ hậu thuẫn
cho ngươi. Như thế, khi ngươi kêu cầu, Chúa sẽ trả lời;
ngươi la lên, Chúa sẽ phán: "Này Ta đây". Đó là lời Chúa.</font></p>

<font face="Arial"><strong>Suy niệm:</strong> Tại sao ăn
chay, tại sao không? Một vấn nạn tưởng là nhỏ nhưng lại thúc
bách người ta đặt ra nhiều vấn nạn khác! Phải chăng đối với
các môn đệ của Gio-an, những người giữ luật, họ sợ mình đang
làm sai? Hoặc giả họ băn khoăn, vì ghen tỵ: mình thì “bị”
luật giữ còn môn đệ Giê-su thì không? Đức Giê-su có đang gây
“gương mù gương xấu” khi thả lỏng cho các môn đệ trong
chuyện tịnh chay? Hay đời sống chan hòa giữa Đức Giê-su và
các môn đệ có lôi cuốn họ đến để tìm hiểu về mối tương quan
thầy trò này? Để trả lời một vấn nạn, Đức Giê-su lại đưa ra
một vấn nạn khác, qua Chúa minh định rằng: Ngài chính là vị
Tân Lang, và các môn đệ là khách mời dự tiệc cưới: <em>“Chẳng
lẽ khách dự tiệc – </em>là các môn đệ – <em>lại than khóc
khi chàng rể – </em>là chính Ngài – <em>còn đang ở với họ” </em>sao?</font></p>

tinh thần mới để thực thi luật mới của Ngài là luật yêu

theo thói nệ luật, chưa được thúc đẩy bởi lòng thương xót
