ăn chay, triệu tập một đại lễ, quy tụ dân chúng, ra lệnh mở
đại hội, tập họp các bô lão, quy tụ các thiếu nhi và các trẻ
còn măng sữa. Tân lang hãy ra khỏi nhà, và tân nương hãy ra
khỏi phòng. Các tư tế là những kẻ phụng sự Chúa, hãy đứng
giữa cửa chính và bàn thờ mà than khóc và kêu lên rằng: Lạy
Chúa, xin thương xót dân Chúa, xin đừng để cho cơ nghiệp
Chúa phải hổ thẹn, đừng để các dân tộc thống trị nó. Tại sao

<font face="Arial"><strong>Suy niệm:</strong> Lời Chúa trong
Lễ Tro nhắc chúng ta rằng, Thiên Chúa muốn chúng ta tìm giờ
thinh lặng đối diện với Ngài để được rọi soi tận tâm hồn và
để được Ngài biến đổi bên trong. Thiếu sót những thời giờ
cần thiết này sẽ là một thảm họa. Bất ngờ chuyện nữ sinh một
trường ở Huế đánh nhau, người ta mới nhận ra rằng, nét dịu
dàng, e ấp, ngoan hiền làm nên phẩm hạnh cao quý của các cô
gái Huế đã biến mất tự bao giờ theo sự xuống cấp của nền
giáo dục. Chuyện đáng tiếc xảy ra, bấy giờ người ta mới ngộ
ra rằng, từ lâu cha mẹ, nhà trường, xã hội và các cộng đoàn
Giáo Hội nữa, đã không nhìn lại trách nhiệm của mình. Nếu
mỗi thành phần thường xuyên dành thời giờ nhìn lại bổn phận
của mình, đạo đức sẽ không sa sút. Vì vậy, thời giờ thinh
lặng cần biết bao, nhất là đối với Ki-tô hữu. Mẹ Tê-rê-xa
nói rằng, chúng ta cần tìm gặp Thiên Chúa, nhưng không thể
tìm gặp Ngài trong sự ồn ào, náo loạn, bởi Thiên Chúa là
người bạn của thinh lặng. Hãy nhìn thiên nhiên thinh lặng
thế nào! Chúng ta cần thinh lặng để nhìn lại chính mình, để
lắng nghe lời Chúa, gặp gỡ Chúa và đắm mình trong tình yêu
của Chúa. Mùa Chay là mùa tạo bầu khí thinh lặng để được gặp
Chúa.</font></p>

<font face="Arial"><strong><u>Suy niệm</u>:</strong> Lễ Tro
khởi đầu Mùa Chay Thánh, là dịp để mọi Ki-tô hữu làm mới lại
cách sống của mình theo tinh thần Phúc Âm qua ba phương thế
đạo đức: ăn chay, cầu nguyện và làm việc lành phúc đức. Ăn
chay thì có thể làm kín đáo, cầu nguyện thì có thể <em>“vào
phòng đóng cửa lại”</em>, còn làm phúc bố thí thì làm sao có
thể <em>“không cho tay trái biết việc tay phải làm”</em> được?
Thật ra, Chúa dạy chúng ta phải làm những việc tốt đẹp để,
giống như <em>“ánh sáng chiếu giãi trước mặt thiên hạ,” </em>người
ta <em>“xem thấy mà ngợi khen Cha anh em ở trên trời”</em> (Mt
5,16). Vì thế điểm phân biệt việc làm phúc thật với việc
“làm phúc giả” chính là ở ý hướng và thái độ của người làm:
làm việc lành phúc đức không phải để <em>“phô trương cho
thiên hạ thấy”</em> mà chỉ vì vinh danh Chúa.<br>

nhắm dạy bố thí, cầu nguyện, và ăn chay. Vì các môn đệ dường
như vẫn thường làm các việc ấy. Điều Chúa nhấn mạnh là <strong><em>cách</em></strong> làm:
chớ có phô trương! Tin Mừng hôm nay xoáy duy nhất vào điểm
này. Phô trương là cám dỗ muôn thuở; nó chọc thẳng vào yếu
huyệt thứ nhất của con người là lòng kiêu ngạo. Nó tinh vi
vì nó không cố kéo người ta ra khỏi “việc lành phúc đức;” nó
chỉ đánh vào <strong><em>cách</em></strong> họ làm mà thôi.
Khi người ta phô trương, thì những “việc lành phúc đức” của
họ trở thành số không, vì <em>“đã được trả công rồi!"</em></font></p>

không phô trương cách thô thiển, huỵch toẹt, ta chỉ phô
trương cách khéo léo thôi. Song, đằng nào thì cũng là phô
trương – và trước mặt Chúa, những “việc lành phúc đức” ta
làm sẽ hoàn toàn mất chất. Để tránh bẫy phô trương, ta phải
chặn cái ý nghĩ “mình có công phúc” hay “mình tốt lành” ngay
từ trong lòng mình. Một vị thánh là thánh cho tới khi vị ấy
biết mình là một vị thánh. Chúa dạy ta nhớ mình là tôi tớ vô
dụng, nếu có làm được gì thì đấy chỉ là bổn phận mà thôi (x.
Lc 17,10).</font></p>
