Các con thân mến, nếu Thiên Chúa thương yêu chúng ta dường ấy, thì chúng ta
cũng phải thương yêu nhau. Chẳng ai thấy Thiên Chúa bao giờ, nếu chúng ta
thương yêu nhau, thì Thiên Chúa ở trong chúng ta, và tình yêu của Người nơi
chúng ta đã được tuyệt hảo. Do điều này mà chúng ta biết chúng ta ở trong
Người và Người ở trong chúng ta là Người đã ban Thánh Thần cho chúng ta. Và
chúng ta đã thấy và chứng nhận rằng Chúa Cha đã sai Con Mình làm Đấng Cứu
Thế. Ai tuyên xưng Đức Giêsu là Con Thiên Chúa, thì Thiên Chúa ở trong người
ấy và người ấy ở trong Thiên Chúa. Còn chúng ta, chúng ta đã biết và tin nơi
tình yêu của Thiên Chúa đối với chúng ta.</p>

Thiên Chúa là Tình Yêu, và ai ở trong tình yêu, thì ở trong Thiên Chúa, và
Thiên Chúa ở trong họ. Do đó, tình yêu của Thiên Chúa đã trọn vẹn đối với
chúng ta, để chúng ta tin tưởng trong ngày phán xét, vì Người thế nào, thì
chúng ta cũng thế ấy ở thế gian này. Nơi tình thương không có sự sợ hãi,
nhưng tình thương trọn lành thì loại bỏ sợ hãi ra ngoài, vì sợ hãi mang theo
hình phạt, và người nào sợ hãi thì không hoàn hảo trong tình thương. Đó là
lời Chúa.</p>

(Khi năm ngàn người đã được ăn no), Chúa Giêsu liền giục các môn đệ xuống
thuyền, qua bờ bên kia trước mà đến Bếtsai-đa, đang khi Người giải tán dân
chúng. Giải tán họ xong, Người lên núi cầu nguyện. Chiều đến, thuyền đã ra
giữa biển, còn Người thì một mình ở trên đất. Khoảng canh tư đêm tối, Người
thấy họ khó nhọc chèo chống vì ngược gió, Người đi trên mặt biển mà đến với
họ, và Người muốn vượt qua trước họ. Họ thấy Người đi trên mặt biển, thì
tưởng là ma, nên la hoảng lên. Vì ai nấy đều thấy Người và hoảng hốt, nên
Người liền lên tiếng bảo họ rằng: "Hãy yên trí, chính Thầy đây, đừng sợ".
Rồi Người lên thuyền họ, và gió im lặng. Tâm hồn họ lại càng sửng sốt hơn,
vì họ chưa hiểu gì về vấn đề bánh: lòng họ còn mù tối.</p>

<strong>Suy niệm:</strong> Sau phép lạ hóa bánh ra nhiều, Đức Giê-su phải
vất vả giải tán đám đông muốn tôn Ngài làm vua, sai môn đệ xuống thuyền sang
bờ bên kia, rồi lên núi cầu nguyện. Lúc đó sắp đến lễ Vượt Qua, tức là thời
kỳ trăng tròn (khoảng giữa tháng tư). Trong ánh trăng rằm, từ trên núi Ngài
có thể nhìn thấy con thuyền của các môn đệ phải vất vả chèo chống vì gió
ngược. Ngài liền chấm dứt cầu nguyện, đi trên mặt biển đến với các ông, làm
cho sóng êm gió lặng. Như vậy, qua ba sự kiện này, ta nhận thấy: Ngài là vị
Thầy luôn chạnh lòng thương dân chúng (c. 34), quan tâm đến những nỗi vất vả
của môn đệ (c. 48) và đầy quyền năng trên sóng nước (c. 51). Đức Giê-su,
hiện thân của Thiên Chúa ở giữa con người, để che chở và giải thoát con
người.</p>

<strong><u>Suy niệm</u>:</strong> Biển sâu, đêm đen, gió ngược là những hình
ảnh nói lên hoàn cảnh các môn đệ đang phải vất vả chống chọi với những mãnh
lực và cạm bẫy của thế gian, ma quỷ. Bị bủa vây giữa muôn vàn nguy hiểm
nhưng các ông dường như không ý thức; còn khi trông thấy Chúa đi trên biển
để đến với các ông, các ông lại kinh hoảng vì tưởng Chúa là quỷ ma hiện
hình. Trước sự sợ hãi của các môn đệ, Chúa Giêsu đã lên tiếng trấn an các
ông: <em>“Chính Thầy đây, đừng sợ!” </em>Chúa muốn dạy các ông biết nhận ra
Chúa giữa muôn vàn cạm bẫy của biển cả thế gian và biết tín thác vào Chúa là
nguồn sức mạnh giúp các ông vượt thắng mọi sợ hãi.</p>

<strong><u>Mời Bạn</u>:</strong> Sợ là phản ứng tự nhiên của bản năng con
người khi họ cảm thấy sự an toàn, sự sống còn của bản thân mình bị đe doạ.
Chúng ta chỉ có thể tìm thấy sự an toàn bền vững nơi Đức Kitô, là Đấng đã
nói với chúng ta “Đừng sợ!” Chân phước Giáo hoàng Gioan Phaolô II giải
thích: <em>“Anh chị em đừng sợ! Hãy mở ra, mở toang mọi cánh cửa đón lấy
Chúa Kitô!” </em>“Mở ra” để “đón lấy” là hai hành động thiết yếu của đời
sống đức tin. Có “mở ra” mới có thể “đón lấy” Chúa Kitô, là nguồn sức mạnh
giúp chúng ta vượt qua mọi nỗi sợ hãi của con người.</p>
