Cây Giáng Sinh đã đến Công trường Thánh Phêrô tỏa sáng vào ngày 19 tháng
12 năm 2014.</p>

Một cây thông Noel khổng lồ, một cây thông trắng cao hơn 80 feet sẽ được
đặt tại Công trường Thánh Phêrô, đã đến tại Vatican.</p>

Ánh sáng của cây Giáng Sinh sẽ tỏa sáng vào chiều thứ Sáu, ngày 19
tháng12. Đồng thời, Vatican cũng sẽ giới thiệu các cảnh Giáng sinh tại
Công trường Thánh Phêrô, được cấu hình 25 hình ảnh sắp xếp theo kích
thước thật.Năm nay, cây Giáng Sinh đến từ các tỉnh Fabrizia, Calabria
của Ý. Cảnh Giáng Sinh này là món quà từ Verona dành cho Arena

Cùng với cây Noel là một hang Belem lớn được làm ngay tại chân cột tháp
Obelisco trước Đền Thánh Phêrô. Hang Belem này sẽ mở màn từ ngày 24
tháng 12 đến ngày 2 tháng 2. Đây là nét văn hóa tôn giáo đẹp đẽ đã có từ
năm 1982, thời Đức cố Giáo Hoàng Gioan Phaolô II. Thực ra truyền thống
này đã khởi nguồn từ rất xa xưa khi thánh Phanxicô Assisi vào năm 1223
đã làm để diễn tả Mầu Nhiệm Belem. Đức Thánh Cha Bênêdictô XVI đã theo
truyền thống này và Ngài đã nhấn mạnh và xác nhận ý nghĩa giá trị của
việc làm hang Belem và cây Noel không chỉ là diễn tả các yếu tố tinh
thần tôn giáo mà còn cả các yếu tố văn hóa và nghệ thuật. Sau dịp Giáng
Sinh, cây Noel sẽ được hạ xuống. Phần gỗ sẽ được trao cho các nghệ nhân
để chế tác thành những sản phẩm văn hóa và nghệ thuật. Các sản phẩm này
sẽ được bán và số tiền thu được Tòa Thánh sẽ đem giúp đỡ những người
nghèo.</p>

Theo truyền thuyết, ngay từ 2000 đến 1200 trước Công nguyên đã có tục lệ
trưng bày cây thông épicéa vào ngày 24 tháng 12, bởi vì người ta xem như
ngày này là ngày tái sinh của Mặt trời. Trước đây, người Đông Âu
(Celtes) dùng lịch theo chu kì Mặt trăng. Mỗi tháng của năm đều liên kết
với một loại cây. Ngày 24 tháng 12 nhắm tiết Đông chí được đặt tên là
tùng bách (épicéa). Để làm lễ cho ngày Đông chí, một cây xanh tượng
trưng cho sự sống được trang trí bởi trái, hoa và lúa mì.</p>

Năm 354, Giáo Hội Công Giáo định lễ Giáng Sinh được cử hành ngày 25
tháng 12. Theo dòng thời thời gian, cây Noel có một lịch sử hình thành
và đến nay nó đã trở thành thân quen mỗi dịp Giáng Sinh về.</p>

Người ta kể lại rằng: thánh đan sĩ Boniface (sinh năm 680) đã phá tục
thờ cây cối. Ngài thuyết phục các đạo sĩ người Đức ở vùng Geismar là cây
sồi không phải là cây thiêng. Ngài cho hạ một cây sồi. Khi đốn cây, sồi
lăn xuống triệt hạ các cây mọc trên triền dốc, chỉ trừ cây thông. Thánh
Boniface coi đó là điềm lạ, nên đã thuyết giảng rằng: ''Kể từ nay, ta
đặt tên cho cây thông là cây Chúa Hài Đồng''. Từ đó, người ta trồng cây
thông trên khắp nước Đức để mừng lễ Giáng Sinh.</p>

Đến thế kỷ thứ XI, cây Noel được trang hoàng bằng những trái pom đỏ,
tượng trưng cho cây thiên đàng. Trên đó người ta treo trái pomme của bà
Eva.</p>

Từ thế kỷ thứ XII, cây sapin được xuất hiện tại Âu Châu, vùng Alsace.
Người ta gọi "Cây Noel" lần đầu tiên tại Alsace vào năm 1521.</p>

Thế kỷ thứ XIV, người ta trang trí cây thông bằng những trái pomme của
bà Eva, kẹo và bánh. Cũng vào thời kì đó, một ngôi sao trên đỉnh cây
tượng trưng cho ngôi sao Bethleem bắt đầu được phổ biến. Năm 1560 những
người theo đạo Tin Lành phát trển truyền thống cây Noel.</p>

Thế kỷ XII và XIII, các cây sapin chiếu sáng đầu tiên xuất hiện. Người
ta dùng những vỏ trái hồ đào (noix) đựng đầy dầu, trên mặt để tim đèn,
hay đèn sáp mềm, cột quanh cây thông.</p>

Năm 1738, Marie Leszcynska, vợ vua Louis XV nước Pháp, đã trang hoàng
một cây Noel trong lâu đài Versailles.</p>

Tại Alsace-Lorraine, người ta thấy càng ngày càng nhiều cây sapin, nơi
đầu tiên có truyền thống này.</p>

Các nước Thuỵ Điển, Đan Mạch, Na Uy thường trang hoàng nhà cửa cây xanh
nhân dịp năm mới để xua đuổi ma quỷ. Họ còn dựng cây cho chim trú ngụ
trong mùa Giáng Sinh.</p>

Năm 1837, bà công tước Orléans, Hélène de Mecklembourg, gốc người Đức
cho người trang hoàng một cây sapin tại điện Tuileries.</p>

Làm lễ Giáng Sinh quanh một cái cây, biểu tượng cho cây trên Thiên Đàng
và đủ loại kẹo đã trở thành một truyền thống nhanh chóng bên Đức. Phải
chờ đến gần một thế kỷ để truyền thống đó đến mọi gia đình người Pháp,
nhất là sau chiến tranh 1870, có hàng ngàn gia đình người
Alsace-Lorraine di cư qua Pháp. Chính nhờ thời kì đó mà cả nước Pháp thu
nhập truyền thống này.</p>

Đầu thế kỷ thứ 19, Cây Noel được nhập vào nước Anh từ từ và rất được tán
thưởng, nhờ ông hoàng Albert, chồng của Nữ hoàng Victoria. Vào thời đó,
người ta gọi cây Noel là cây Victorian Tree. Cây Victorian Tree được
trang trí bằng đèn sáp, kẹo cùng các thứ bánh treo ở cành cây bằng dây
giấy đủ màu.</p>

Cây Noel được thịnh hành nhất vào thế kỉ thứ 19. Cây Noel cũng được
những nước Áo, Thuỵ Sỹ, Phần Lan, Hoà Lan tán thưởng trong thời kì này.
Hiện nay khắp nơi trên thế giới đều tổ chức lễ Giáng Sinh và chưng cây
Noel.</p>

Tương truyền về thánh Boniface kể rằng, một hôm trên đường hành hương,
Ngài tình cờ bắt gặp một nhóm những kẻ ngoại đạo sùng bái đang tập trung
xunh quanh một cây sồi lớn, dùng một đứa trẻ để tế thần. Để dừng buổi tế
thần và cứu đứa trẻ, thánh nhân hạ gục cây sồi chỉ bằng một quả một quả
đấm! Tại nơi đó đã mọc lên một cây thông nhỏ. Vị thánh nói với những kẻ
ngoại đạo rằng cây thông nhỏ là cây của sự sống và nó tượng trưng cho
cuộc sống vĩnh hằng của Chúa Cứu Thế.</p>

Tương truyền, một lần Martin Luther, người sáng lập đạo Tin Lành dạo
bước qua những cánh rừng vào một đêm Noel khoảng năm 1500. Trời quang và
lạnh. Hàng triệu vì sao lấp lánh qua kẻ lá.Ông thực sự ngỡ ngàng trước
một loài cây nhỏ, trên cành cây tuyết trắng phủ đầy, lung linh dưới ánh
trăng.Cảnh vật hôm đó đã làm Luther thực sự rung động. Vì thế, khi trở
về ông đã đặt một cây thông nhỏ trong nhà và kể lại câu chuyện này với
lũ trẻ. Để tái tạo ánh lấp lánh của muôn ngàn ánh sao, ông đã treo nến
trên cành cây thông và thắp sáng những ngọn nến ấy với lòng tôn kính
ngày Chúa Giáng Sinh.</p>

Một truyền thuyết khác lại kể rằng vào một đêm Noel đã rất lâu rồi, có
một người tiều phu đang trên đường trở về nhà thì gặp một đứa trẻ bị lạc
và lả đi mặc dù nghèo khó nhưng người tiều phu đã dành lại cho đứa trẻ
chút thức ăn ít ỏi của mình và che chở cho nó yên giấc qua đêm. Buổi

Nguồn gốc thực của cây Noel có thể gắn liền với những vở kịch thiên
đường. Vào thời thượng cổ, những vở kịch đạo đức được biểu diễn khắp
Châu Âu, thông qua các vở kịch ấy người ta có thể truyền bá các bài Kinh
Thánh. Những vở kịch nói về nguồn gốc của loài người và sự dại dột của
Adam và Eva tại vườn Eden, thường được diễn vào ngày 24 tháng 12 hằng
năm. Cây táo là một đạo cụ trong vở kịch, nhưng vì các vở kịch được diễn
vào mùa đông, các loài cây đều chưa kết trái nên các diễn viên phải treo
các quả táo giả lên cành cây.</p>

Vào giữa thế kỷ XIX, hoàng tử Albert chồng tương lai của nữ hoàng
Victoria ra đời. Chính ông đã phổ biến rộng rãi cây Giáng Sinh vào nước
Anh. Năm 1841, đôi vợ chồng hoàng gia này đã trang hoàng cây Giáng Sinh
đầu tiên của nước Anh tại lâu đài Windon bằng nến cùng với rất nhiều
laọi kẹo, hoa quả và bánh mì gừng. Khi cây Giáng Sinh trở thành thời
thượng ở Anh thì những gia đình giàu có đã dùng tất cả những đồ vật quý
giá để trang trí cho nó. Vào những năm 1850, theo sự mô tả của đại văn
hào Charles Dickens thì cây Giáng Sinh ở Anh được trang hoàng bằng búp
bê, những vật dụng nhỏ bé, các thiết bị âm nhạc, đồ trang sức, súng và
gươm đồ chơi, hoa quả và bánh kẹo. Sau khi đã tồn tại ở Anh thì phong
tục cây Noel cũng trở nên phổ biến trên khắp các vùng thuộc địa của đế
chế Anh, tới cả những vùng đất mới như Canada.</p>

Cây Noel đầu tiên được dân chúng ở Mỹ biết đến là vào những năm 1830.
Khi hầu hết người dân Mỹ coi cây Giáng Sinh là một điều kì cục thì những
người Đức nhập cư ở Pennsylvania thường mang cây Giáng Sinh vào các buổi
biểu diễn nhăm tăng thêm tiền quyên góp cho nhà thờ. Năm 1851, một mục
sư người Đức đặt một cây Giáng Sinh trước cửa nhà thờ của ông làm cho
những người dân xứ đạo ở đó đã bị xúc phạm và buộc ông phải hạ nó xuống.
Họ cảm thấy đó là một phong tục ngoại đạo.</p>

Tuy nhiên, vào những năm 1890, nhiều đồ trang trí bắt đầu được nhập từ
Đức vào và từ đó tục lệ về cây Giáng Sinh trở nên phổ biến ở Canada và
Mỹ. Có một sự khác biệt lớn giữa cây Giáng Sinh của Châu Âu và Bắc Mỹ.
Cây của Châu Âu nhỏ, hiếm khi cao hơn 1,5 mét chỉ khoảng 4 -5 feet trong
khi cây của Bắc Mỹ cao tới trần nhà.</p>

Năm 1900, cứ 5 gia đình ở Bắc Mỹ thì có một gia đình có cây Giáng Sinh,
và hai mươi năm sau phong tục này trở nên khá phổ biến. Vào những năm
đầu thế kỉ XX, người dân Bắc Mỹ thường trang trí cây thông bằng đồ trang
trí do chính tay họ làm ra. Đồ trang trí truyền thống của người Canada
và người Mỹ gốc Đức gồm có quả hạnh nhân, quả hạch, bánh hạnh nhân với
nhiều hình dạng thú vị khác nhau. Những hạt bắp chiên nhiều màu sắc,
được trang trí cùng những quả phúc bồn tử và các chuỗi hạt. Cũng vào
thời gian này bắt đầu xuất hiện những dây đèn trang trí trên cây Giáng
Sinh, nhờ nó cây thông rực rỡ hơn nhiều lần. Ánh sáng trang trí bằng đèn
điện kéo dài hơn và an toàn hơn rất nhiều so với ánh sáng toả ra từ
những ngọn nến.</p>

Mỗi năm khi ngày Giáng Sinh tới, một cây Noel lộng lẫy được đặt tại
quảng trường trung tâm Bentall thành phố Vancouver, phía nam British
Columbia. Và dân chúng tập trung xung quanh cây Noel đầu tiên vừa được
dựng lên và chưa được trang hoàng lộng lẫy kia. Rồi ở cuối thành phố cây
thông sáng bỗng bừng lên với muôn vàn ánh đèn đầy màu sắc, cùng lúc đó
đội hợp xướng nhà thờ ca vang bài hát mừng lễ Giáng Sinh. Tại ngọn đồi
Parliament ở Ottawa, một cây Noel rực rỡ ánh đèn màu được đặt cạnh ngọn
đuốc thế kỷ của Cananda cùng với âm vị ngọt ngào của giai điệu Giáng
Sinh tuyệt vời từ tháp hoà bình Carillon vang đến (theo thánh nhạc ngày
nay số 52).</p>

Trong giờ đọc kinh truyền tin Chúa Nhật 19.12.2004, Đức Thánh Cha
Gioan-Phaolô II đã diễn giải ý nghĩa cây Noel: ''Ta thường trưng bày bên
cạnh máng cỏ một cây thông Giáng sinh, vốn là truyền thống tốt đẹp lâu
đời nhằm ngợi ca cuộc sống. Vào mùa đông rét mướt, cây thông vẫn xanh
tươi để nói rằng cuộc sống không bao giờ bị hủy diệt. Các quà tặng Giáng
sinh được bày dưới gốc cây. Biểu tượng này muốn nói rằng cây Giáng sinh
là cây nhân sinh mang hình ảnh Đức Kitô. Đây chính là món quà Thiên Chúa
ban cho nhân trần. Thông điệp về cây thông Giáng sinh còn mang ý nghĩa
cuộc sống xanh tươi như tặng vật của tình bạn và lòng yêu thương, là sự
tương trợ huynh đệ và sự tha thứ, là sự chia sẻ và lắng nghe tha nhân".</p>

Giáng Sinh đã trở thành một đại lễ của nhân loại. Dù tin hay không tin
vào Chúa Giêsu, mọi người đều hân hoan đón đợi và vui tươi mừng lễ.</p>

Giáng Sinh có lẽ là ngày hội lớn duy nhất trên trái đất được đón mừng
bởi mọi quốc gia, mọi sắc tộc, mọi tầng lớp xã hội. Từ núi cao, trong
rừng sâu, xuống đồng bằng, vào thị tứ giầu sang....Qua đủ mọi hình thức:
Hang đá máng cỏ, cây Noel, nhóm vài cây củi trên rừng, thắp ngọn nến đơn
sơ trong ngôi nhà thờ bé nhỏ nghèo nàn vùng quê hẻo lánh, hay trăm ngàn
ánh đèn muôn mầu rực rỡ chốn đô hội văn minh tráng lệ, khắp nơi đón mừng
và cùng hát lên tâm tình:</p>

vui là quà tặng của Giáng sinh. Cây Noel lộng lẫy ánh đèn nhấp nháy sáng
lên tia hy vọng như mời gọi chúng ta hãy tỏa sáng tình yêu của Thiên
