Việc dùng bao cao su như phương tiện tránh thai luôn là một điều
không được phép. Còn việc sử dụng nó như phương thế tránh HIV
còn là vấn đề tranh luận khá sôi nổi. Đức Thánh Cha Benedict XVI
có nói về vấn đề này mà người ta cắt nghĩa nhiều kiểu khác nhau:</span></font></p>

Việc làm phúc là phát bao cao su chúng ta nên suy nghĩ: Làm phúc
cho nạn nhân hay cho người chủ trương làm điều sai trái? Giúp
cho người ta tránh bệnh hay cung cấp phương tiện cho người ta
thực hiện những hành vi tội lỗi, bất hợp pháp? Cung cấp bao cao
su có phải là việc thiện hay là sự cộng tác vào điều dữ? Điều dữ
ác liên quan ở đây không phải là sự kiện không thể tránh được
nhưng con người có tự do, có khả năng tránh được. Cung cấp bao
cao su không phải là làm phúc cho một nạn nhân không còn lối
thoát. Chắc chắn không có một giải đáp gọn ghẽ cho thắc mắc này,
nhưng là một đề tài cho ta suy tư và chọn lựa trước mặt Chúa.</font></span></td>
