<font face="Times New Roman">Hai câu hỏi này khá rộng rãi và
phổ quát liên quan đến những vấn đề chuyên môn như khoa Thần
học, triết học, tu đức học, tâm lý học. Trong phạm vi giới hạn
của trang Hỏi Đáp này, chúng tôi không dám trình bày những “<i>cách
trình bày</i>” của Thánh Tôma Aquinô về những vấn đề này. Chúng
tôi chỉ xin góp ý vắn tắt: Thánh Tôma Aquinô đã giải thích nhân
đức can đảm như sau: "Hành vi nhân linh của con người được hướng
về mục đích, nhưng khi có sự xâm chiếm của đau đớn, sợ hãi, hay
nguy hiểm, thì rất khó giữ được sự quân bình để theo đuổi mục
đích đó, cho dù mục đích rất quan trọng và hành vi rất khẩn
thiết. Vì lý do đó, cần thiết phải có sự can đảm hay nhân đức
can đảm. Thánh Tôma đã định nghĩa: Can đảm là nhân đức chuyển
dời những ngãng trở chúng làm cho ý chỉ thoái lui không theo lý
trí" (<i>xem Saint Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica, [London:
Burns and Oates Ltd.,1922], II.-II., Q123, A.3).</i></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal">
<font face="Times New Roman">Còn về sự nhận biết Thiên Chúa của
trí tuệ thụ tạo, chúng ta có thể tìm hiểu trong sách Giáo Lý
Giáo Hội Công Giáo, trong đó cũng nhắc tới giáo thuyết của Thánh
Tôma tiến sĩ về khả năng nhận biết Thiên Chúa bằng trí óc con
người thụ tạo. Thế giới vũ trụ và con người không chứa trong
chính mình nguyên lý đệ nhất <i>(first principle)</i> hay cùng
đích <i>(final end),</i> nhưng vũ trụ và con người tham dự vào
chính Sự Hữu <i>(Đấng Tự Hữu),</i> chỉ có Đấng đó mới không có
nguồn gốc và cùng đích. Do đó, bằng nhiều cách khác nhau, con
người biết được sự hiện hữu của một thực thể là nguyên nhân đệ
nhất và cùng đích của mọi vật, thực thể đó ta gọi là Thiên Chúa
<i>(xem St. Thomas Aquinas, STh I,2,3).</i></font></p>
