Theo Luật của Giáo Hội Công giáo, một người Công giáo không được
phép lấy người ngoài Công giáo <i>(hôn nhân hỗn hợp - giữa một
người Công giáo và một người đã được rửa tội ngoài Công giáo,
hay hôn nhân khác đạo - giữa một ngươi Công giáo và một người
chưa được rửa tội)</i>. Nếu người ngoài Công giáo ấy là người
chưa chịu phép Rửa tội thì cuộc hôn nhân bị ngăn trở bất thành,
nghĩa là làm phép cưới không thành. Trong trường hợp này, nếu
hai người muốn lấy nhau thì bên Công giáo phải xin <b><i>phép
chuẩn</i></b> nơi Tòa Giám Mục. Sau khi đã được phép chuẩn rồi
thì được làm phép cưới, tuy nhiên <u>không được cử hành trong
Thánh Lễ</u>, nhưng được làm trong nhà thờ. Trong trường hợp
này, phép cưới của anh chị dù thành sự, nhưng không phải là Bí
Tích Hôn Phối.</span></td>
