		Giáo luật 1983 khoản 1055: “Giao ước hôn phối, người nam và người nữ 
		tạo nên với nhau một cuộc thông hiệp trọn cả cuộc sống. Tự bản tính, 
		giao ước hôn phối hướng về thiện ích của đôi bạn và việc sinh sản cùng 
		giáo dục con cái. Chúa Kitô đã nâng giao ước hôn phối giữa người đã chịu 
		phép rửa tội lên hàng Bí Tích”. Vì thế, hôn phối của giữa người 
		công giáo và người chưa được rửa tội, nếu đã được sự chuẩn 
		nhận của Bản quyền địa phương, và đã được cử hành theo nghi 
		thức luật định, thì hôn phối đó thành sự và hợp pháp, cho 
		dẫu hôn phối đó chưa là bí tích. Vì thế, nếu sau này, người 
		phối ngẫu ngoài công giáo, rửa tội theo đạo công giáo, thì hôn 
		nhân trước đó sẽ được ơn thánh của bí tích Rửa tội nâng lên
