Tiến sĩ Hội Thánh là những vị Thánh đã được phong hiển thánh và
được Đức Thánh Cha hay Công Đồng Chung chính thức nhìn nhận các
Ngài là những Tiến Sĩ Hội Thánh. Có 8 vị Thánh Tiến Sĩ tiên khởi
gồm 4 vị bên Giáo Hội bên Tây (được tuyên bố năm 1298) là các
Thánh Ambrose, Jerome, Augustine, Gregory Cả và 4 vị bên Đông
(năm 1568) Athanasius, John Chrysostom, Basil Cả, và Gregory
Nazianzus. Sau đó thêm các vị Tôma Aquinas (1567), Bonaventura
(1588), Anselm Canterbury (1720), Isidore Seville (1722), Peter
Chrysologus (1729), Leô Cả (1754), Peter Damian (1828), Bernard
Clairaux (1830), Hilary Poitiers (1851), Alphonsô Liguori
(1871), Francis de Sales (1877), Cyril Alexandria và Cyril
Jerusalem (1882), John Damascus (1890), Venerable Bede (1899),
Ephraem Syrian (1920), Peter Canisius (1925), Gioan Thánh Giá
(1926), Robert Bellamine (1931), Albert Magnus (1932), Antôn
Padua (1946), Lawrence Brindisi (1959), Teresa Avila và Catarina
Siena (1970), Teresa Hài Đồng Giêsu (1997). Các vị này là những
văn sĩ của Giáo Hội đã đóng góp cho Giáo Hội những tác phẩm mang
lại lợi ích lớn lao do những giáo thuyết của các ngài. Không cần
họ có những bằng sắc nhưng có những học thuyết trổi vượt đóng
góp cho nền thần học trong Dân Chúa.</span></font></td>
