thành những bậc cha mẹ gần gũi chính là kỹ năng mà tất cả những
bậc cha mẹ đều phải đạt được. Đó chính là lắng nghe con trẻ khi
chúng cần được lắng nghe; đó chính là biểu lộ cho chúng biết
rằng bạn hiểu rõ những khó khăn mà chúng đang đối mặt; đó chính
là chậm xét đoán và trách mắng, nhưng mau mắn và thật tâm trong
sự tán thành và khen ngợi; đó chính là bày tỏ cho con trẻ biết
rằng chúng rất quan trọng đối với bạn bằng cách sẵn lòng dành
thời gian lắng nghe những gì chúng nói; đó chính là nhận ra rằng
đôi khi con trẻ chỉ cần nói chuyện, và thông qua việc lắng nghe,
bạn có thể giúp chúng có được những kết luận đúng đắn mà không
cần đến “lời chỉ dẫn”; đó chính là thể hiện sự quan tâm đến
chúng và sẵn lòng giúp đỡ hoặc đưa ra lời khuyên, nhưng không
phải đàn áp hoặc ra lệnh bắt con trẻ phải làm theo bạn. Trở nên
“gần gũi” có nghĩa là con cái cảm thấy thoải mái đến bên bạn
trong những lúc vui cũng như những lúc khó khăn, và chúng biết

nói: “Vui nhỉ!”, nhưng rồi ngay lập tức tiếp tục công việc bạn
đang dang dở. Chính cách phản ứng ấy làm giảm đi mức độ gần gũi
của bạn trong tâm trí của con trẻ. Dần dần chúng nghĩ rằng bạn
không quan tâm đến những gì chúng nói.</span></p>
