như thế.<br>
Ngày ấy, cưới mụ về. Loay hoay cái là mụ đẻ. Lão chưa biết xoay sở
ra sao, mụ đã có bầu. Thoắt cái mấy năm, mụ cho ra đời bốn đứa. Từ
ấy, mọi việc trong nhà lão làm tất.<br>

Nấu cơm, lão nấu. Đi chợ, lão đi. Giặt giũ, lão giặt. Lau nhà, lão
cũng lau. Rồi rửa chén, lão cũng làm.<br>
<br>
Mụ cứ việc ăn, rồi chơi với con. Sau nhiều năm, mụ khờ cả ra, chả
biết làm gì nữa. Ăn no ngủ kỹ. Bốn đứa quấn quýt, lúc nào cũng vui
như hội. Lão cứ nhìn mà hạnh phúc. Càng hạnh phúc lão càng hăng say
làm việc.<br>
<br>
Mấy chục năm trời, con đã lớn khôn, mỗi đứa một nơi. Sự nghiệp của
lão bây giờ là một cái nhà rộng lớn, với mụ.<br>
<br>
Mụ đẻ nhiều, nuôi con vất vả, thế là yếu đuối. Mụ cứ đi dậy về là
mỏi mệt. Lão lại nấu cơm lau nhà. Khổ thêm một nỗi, mụ già hay đau
nhức, lão thêm một việc, xoa chân đấm bóp, vất vả khôn lường.<br>
<br>
Một hôm, lão nói với mụ, sao em không nấu cơm quét nhà. Mụ nói gọn
lơ, tay nghề anh cao. Tay nghề em thấp, nấu cơm sợ sống, quét nhà sợ
dơ. Thôi anh cứ làm.<br>
<br>
Sao em khờ vậy, tập làm ít ngày, việc sẽ thành công.<br>
<br>
Mụ lại trả lời, hồi còn con gái, anh chê em khờ, nên mới cưới em. Cả
đời em cũng chỉ khờ vì anh.<br>
<br>
Lão nghe cay đắng, nhưng lại hài lòng. Liền bảo với mụ, em đi ngủ
đi.<br>
