<font face="Arial"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt">Jeholornis, loài chim
cổ nhất được biết đến trên thế giới, từng sống ở khu vực Trung Quốc ngày
nay cùng với các loài động vật thời tiền sử có lông vũ khác. Trước đây,
loài chim này được cho là chỉ có phần đuôi lông xòe như cánh quạt. Tuy
nhiên, phát hiện mới cho thấy loài chim này còn có chiếc đuôi thứ hai có
hình giống một chiếc lá.</span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0" align="justify">
<font face="Arial"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt">Trong số 11 hóa thạch
chim Jeholornis, 6 con chim có dấu hiệu của chiếc đuôi thứ hai nhô ra ở
phần đuôi phía sau và dựng góc thẳng đứng một cách nổi bật. Hóa thạch
được phát hiện cũng cho thấy Jeholornis có kích thước tương tự như gà
tây, có móng vuốt ở hai chân trước với 3 răng nhỏ ở hàm dưới. </span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0" align="justify">
<font face="Arial"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt">Giống như những con
công đực ngày nay với bộ lông đuôi đầy màu sắc để thu hút bạn tình,
những con chim Jeholornis đực cũng có phần đuôi lá rất bắt mắt.</span></font></p>

cho rằng phần đuôi thứ hai có hình giống chiếc lá đóng vai trò giữ ổn
định trong các chuyến bay cho các loài chim cổ và khi sự sắp xếp và phân
bổ lông vũ chứng minh được là đủ độ thuận lợi để bay, các loài chim hiện
đại có thể đã tiến hóa để thực hiện tính năng bay chỉ bằng một cái
đuôi. </span></font></td>
