được tìm thấy ở châu Phi và Madagascar. Khoảng 50% tắc kè hoa trên thế
giới là loài đặc hữu ở Madagascar. Hiện mới chỉ có 66 loài được nhận
dạng. Có lẽ tắc kè hoa là loài đặc biệt nhất trong số mọi loài thằn lằn,
do được ""thiết kế" hoàn hảo để sống trên cây. Cơ thể của chúng dẹt, tạo
điều kiện để di chuyển dễ dàng qua các cành cây và cho phép chúng hấp
thụ nhiệt hiệu quả trong buổi sáng và buổi tối bằng cách hướng phần cơ
thể về phía Mặt trời.</span></font></p>

viên bơi lội rất giỏi, tự căng phồng cơ thể bằng không khí. Con ngươi
của chúng có thể xoay độc lập nên tắc kè có thể nhìn theo hai hướng cùng
lúc mà không cần di chuyển đầu. Khả năng này, đặc biệt hữu ích đối với
một loài động vật phải nguỵ trang để tránh kẻ thù: Tắc kè có thể nằm bất
động tuyệt đối để theo dõi nguy hiểm và con mồi ở mọi hướng. Khi đã định
vị được con mồi, thường là côn trùng, tắc kè hoa phóng lưỡi để tóm nó,
khả năng phóng lưỡi dài và dính với tốc độ chóng mặt để bắt con mồi đang
di chuyển nhanh. </span></font></p>

nay vẫn chưa thể giải thích tại sao chúng lại có thể đẩy lưỡi với sức
mạnh phi thường đến thế. Khi tức giận, tắc kè hoa mở tế bào chứa sắc tố
nâu - melanin, giúp biến nó thành màu thẫm. Khi nó thư giãn, tế bào chứa
sắc tố vàng hoặc xanh kết hợp, làm cho da có màu xanh dịu. Khi bị kích
thích tình dục, tắc kè hoa tạo ra rất nhiều màu sắc và hoa văn. Vào ban
đêm, nhiều tắc kè hoa biến thành màu trắng, có lẽ là lúc chúng thư giãn
hoàn toàn.</span></font></p>
