Là con gái của Hoàng Ðế Maximilian II nước Ðức, Elizabeth kết hôn với
Vua Charles IX của Pháp khi mới 15 tuổi. Bốn năm sau ngài đã thành góa
phụ, trở về Vienna, nhất định không tái hôn.</span></p>

Thánh nữ là một gương mẫu cho tất cả mọi người. Ðời sống của ngài thật
đơn giản, luôn cầu nguyện, siêng đến nhà thờ, tham dự các buổi nguyện
ngắm. Trong khi cố tránh con mắt dòm ngó của công chúng, ngài gia nhập
Dòng Ba Phanxicô, phục vụ bệnh nhân trong các nhà thương hoặc ở nhà,
tiếp tế thuốc men cho những người có nhu cầu. Nhiều ngày thứ Năm, ngài
mời những người nghèo đến ăn cùng bàn với ngài để tưởng nhớ bữa Tiệc Ly.</span></p>

Ngài thường thi hành những công việc hèn mọn ở tu viện Thánh Clara Nghèo
Hèn, mà ngài giúp thành lập. Ở đó, ngài nấu ăn cho người nghèo. Cũng như
Cha Thánh Phanxicô, ngài lo lắng đến việc duy trì Giáo hội. Ngài giúp đỡ
cho việc giáo dục người trẻ trong ơn gọi tu trì, để phục vụ Giáo Hội.</span></p>

Thánh Elizabeth từ trần khi ngài khoảng 38 tuổi, sau khi đã hoàn tất quá
nhiều công việc để vinh danh Thiên Chúa và vì lợi ích cho người dân.
Nhiều phép lạ đã xảy ra tại ngôi mộ của ngài.</span></td></tr></table></body></html>
