<span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif">“Máu các
vị tử đạo là hạt giống của Giáo Hội”, lời của Tertullian trong thế kỷ

<span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif">Cha Giuse
sinh ở Coroneo, Mễ Tây Cơ, và gia nhập dòng Phanxicô khi 17 tuổi. Vì
cuộc nội chiến ở Mễ thời bấy giờ, ngài buộc phải học triết thần ở
California.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt">
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif">Sau khi
được thụ phong linh mục ở Santa Barbara, ngài trở về Mễ Tây Cơ, và phục
vụ tại Jerecuaro từ năm 1922 trở đi. Vì sự bách hại dưới thời tổng thống
Plutarco Calles (1924-1928), Cha Giuse phải ngụy trang dưới nhiều hình
thức khi đi thăm người Công Giáo. Vào năm 1927, tài sản của Giáo Hội bị
quốc hữu hóa, các trường Công Giáo phải đóng cửa, và các linh mục, nữ tu
ngoại quốc bị trục xuất </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt">
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif">Một ngày
kia, Cha Giuse và vài người bị bắt sau khi cử hành Thánh Lễ một cách lén
lút. Cha Giuse đã bị quân lính đâm chết vào ngày 2 tháng Sáu 1928.</span></p>

thi hài Cha Giuse được cung nghinh về Salvatierra để chôn cất giữa tiếng
hô vang dậy, “Vạn tuế Vua Kitô!”</span></p>

Công Giáo ở Mễ Tây Cơ bây giờ thì tự do hơn thời thập niên 1920. Ngày
nay, đạo Công Giáo đang phát triển mạnh ở Mễ, một phần cũng nhờ sự ấp ủ
