<font size="3">ĐTGM Bernardito Auza, trưởng phái đoàn Toà Thánh tham dự
phiên họp lần thứ 6 của nhóm thảo luận về người già của Liên Hiệp Quốc,
đã phát biểu như trên trong bài tham luận ngày 16 tháng 7 vùa qua. Trích
lại lời ĐTC Phanxicô nói: “Thật là điều xấu xa, khi nhìn thấy người già
bị vứt bỏ như thế nào … Không có ai dám nói lên điều này, nhưng nó vẫn
được làm”, vị đại diện Tòa Thánh ghi nhận trong xã hội chỉ đánh giá con
người theo khả năng sản xuất và tiêu thụ, người già không chỉ bị bỏ rơi
trong sự bất ổn vật chất, nhưng cũng bị coi là vô dung và là gánh nặng
cho xã hội nữa.</font></span></p>

<font size="3">Trong các xã hội tây phương, thế kỷ này là thế kỷ của
người già, vì số trẻ em giảm sút, số người gia gia tăng, Hiện nay trên
thế giới có 700 triệu người già khoảng 60 tuổi, tức chiếm 10% tổng số
dân trên thế giới. Nhưng trong năm 2050 số người già sẽ chiếm 20% tổng
số dân. Việc gia tăng này là một thách đố cho xã hội ngày nay, vì nó
cũng đè nặng trên các hệ thống bảo hiểm sức khỏe và trợ cấp xã hội.
Trong số các người già, phụ nữ bị loại bỏ và không được săn sóc hơn cả.
Vì thế cần phải thăng tiến một thái độ tiếp đón quý trọng người già và
hội nhập họ vào cuộc sống xã hội. Hiện nay chưa có các hệ thống đồng
thuận bảo vệ quyền của người già. Vài người đề cập tới việc thành lập
các hệ thống mới giống như Hiến chương về quyền của người tàn tật; người
khác đề nghị các chính quyền dấn thân hơn; người khác nữa nghĩ tới các
biện pháp đã có sẵn trong Chương trình hành động Madrid liên quan tới
người già. Tuy nhiên, việc tiếp cận với vấn đề người già chỉ dựa trên
các quyền con người không thôi, không đủ, nếu không có các chính sách và
chương trình nêu bật các lý do vi phạm quyền của người già. Do đó, cần
thăng tiến các đường lối chính trị và hệ thống giáo dục thay thế nền văn
hóa thống trị vứt bỏ hiện hành chỉ đánh giá con người theo khả năng sản
xuất, và coi người già là vô dụng, gạt bỏ họ khỏi thế đứng của họ trong
xã hội.</font></span></p>

của họ. Người già là nguồn tài nguyên nòng cốt và quý báu cho xã hội, vì
là điểm quy chiếu giúp xã hội duy trì ký ức tập thể và hướng dẫn xã hội
với các kinh nghiệm và sư khôn ngoan của họ (SD 20-7-2015).</font></span></p>
